What you'll do

First, we will travel by car to the highest parts of the mountain. The hike starts 3,500 meters above sea level.
From there, we will visit breath-taking landscapes such as an inactive volcano, rain-fed lagoon, and waterfalls. We will try wild plants and mushrooms, eat beetle larvae, and encounter animals (with scientific names if you’d like!) only found in this part of the world. Along the
way, we will share legends unique to the region.
We will end our journey with a relaxing temazcal bath (Mexican sauna) and jacuzzi to relax our weary muscles and share funny stories under the stars.
Join us to escape and recover from the chaos of Mexico City!
Other things to note
It is safe and very fun, if someone gets tired, the hike can be finished before without problem.

We are Mexico City locals and would like to share the natural beauty of our region. We are an adventurous biologist-couple: Tanya is a batwoman who is finishing her PhD on biodiversity conservation and foodscapes, while Victor holds a PhD in Forestry and is a researcher/professor at UAEMEX specializing in wild plants and axolotls (Google it!).
We have been implementing an education program over the last eight years that has reached more than 25,000 kids and teenagers. Part of the payment will help sustain our environmental education program.
We are experienced hikers/travelers, and have lived at the foot of the Black Forest in Germany, Ecuador, Portugan, Sweden and visited several places around the world.

Where you'll be

Tlazala is a quiet and safe small town less than one hour or only 28 kilometers away west of Mexico City. There are forest pahtways that a few people know, specialized knowledge from two biologists with great experience in the region, to explain and enjoy biodiversity, landscapes and local current and historic human practices. We care about nature protection, reason why we have implemented an environmental education program which, over the last 8 years, has been able to transfer information and promote participation to more than 25,000 kids and teenagers of the region. Your payment will contribute to the continuation of this program.
