What you'll do

• To start the unique culinary experience, I will lead
you to my home garden where you can pick some
fresh vegetables, herbs & ingredients which will
then go into our mouthwatering Sri Lankan dishes.
• You will also get an introduction to curries, including
all ingredients and spices which we will be using, with
the secrets behind the traditional way of preparing
curry powder.
• We will also crack coconuts, scrape it and extract
coconut milk, an important ingredient in Sri Lankan
cuisine.
• You will get a hands on involvement with every step of
preparation.
• We can cook a typical Sri Lankan meal (rice with 5
curries) according to your dietary preference. All curries
will be cooked in traditional clay pots by using
homemade curry powder.
• I will also be sharing tips about Sri Lankan cooking you
will not easily find anywhere else.
• Once done, we can enjoy the cooked meal while over
some great conversation on history, culture & life style
of Sri Lankan people.

Chitra taught us how to make some delicious Sri Lankan dishes (all vegan) with the help of her daughter and welcomed us into her lovely home. Her husband was even kind enough to get some jackfruit so she could teach us a dish that we asked about!

Wow! This was an experience and cultural exchange I will never forget. From the moment we entered Chitra's home until the end I felt a sense of warm welcome. Chitra has a passion for food and hospitality I learned so much not only about food but also her culture. She also added very nice personal touches so you have something tangible when you leave. I had an amazing time and would highly reccomend anyone visiting Kandy to try this out, it was the highlight of my time in Kandy. The final outcome was delicious!

We had a wonderful time at Chitra’s cooking class. She made us feel very welcome in her home and it was very interesting to learn about traditional Sri Lankan cookery. The food we made was exceptional and we’re looking forward to recreating the recipes at home using the recipes Chitra provided. The perfect way to end our Sri Lankan experience.

Chitra and family were absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed our time together and connected over the best food we've had in Sri Lanka. The house was beautiful, her garden walkthrough was informative, her teaching skills are immaculate, and above all else she is incredibly kind. This is a must do while in Kandy! Our bellies and hearts are happy.
