What you'll do

The starting time and location will be 9:30 a.m. at the Fuente de la India park (right in front of Saratoga Hotel. After welcoming everybody, I will give a general introduction to the culture and history of Cuba. Immediately afterwards we will head our steps to heart of the oldest part of town. As we make our way through squares, typical streets and museums, we will get a feeling for colonial art. We will visit some colonial homes and stop at legendary bars to learn about the origins of the popular Cuban drinks that are famous all over the world. As we tour the heart of the city, we will be talking about some of the eccentric governors, the pirates who besieged the town, and the Mafia bosses who operated in Havana and the intense bohemian lifestyle of the 1950s.

On our tour we will pause to admire the frescos, paintings and murals. We will mingle with the locals as they go about their daily activities. Is there any better way to find out about how ingenious Cubans are and how they find solutions for many of their difficulties?

In six years working as a tour guide I learned about Cuba, all over.Today I am lucky to have a job that allows me to “infect” visitors with the sense of the genuinely Cuban. I love to surprise people and I am very happy to be of help wherever I can. The history of Cuba and its visitors are a special part of my life. I observe and learn from every culture and then I use what I have learned in every interaction. But not just as a guide. I also do it as a Cuban who uses his hospitality to provide unforgettable experiences. I’m not happy until I see surprised faces and contented smiles.

Meeting Yohan was one of my favorite experiences! This was my final day in Havana. I was the only one on the tour and he went out of his way to figure out what I’d already done to make sure he didn’t repeat info I’d already received. He filled in details about Cuba’s history. We went to Old Havana where he made sure I saw only new stuff. Then we went across the bay to the Jesus statue where I got some incredible views of Old Havana. He introduced me to the statue El Cabellaro de Paris (the Old Man from Paris) who roamed the streets of Havana as, basically, Cuban Johnny Appleseed. If you grab his beard, hold his finger and step on his toe then he’ll grant your wish. Of course, I can’t share my wish. We finished at Floridita which is a tourist trap but getting a picture with Ernest Hemingway’s statue is kind of a requirement. This was a wonderful experience that I highly recommend!

Yohan was one of the first locals that we met in Havana, and it left a lasting impression on us. His tour was recommended to me by a friend and I’m glad we participated in this experience. You will get a unique perspective from a Cuban in addition to a good deal of history, suggestions for meals or shopping, and assistance with navigating the city. He covers both the larger sights of the city, as well as some hidden gems. The pace was leisurely, and easy going but we still managed to cover a lot of ground. I would recommend Yohan’s tour to any future visitor.

We highly recommend Yohan if you are looking for an awesome & personal guided tour of La Havana. Yohan started the tour by bringing us to a viewpoint (by taxi) where we had a great view over Havana. We then took the ferry back to old town (all transportation included!). He then brought us to so many different and exciting places in Havana vieja (old town) and explained us so many things about the history and life in La Havana. Our tour took more than 4h but time just flew and he answered all our many questions about daily live in Cuba. He was so nice and friendly and knowledgeable and we learned so much! We definitely recommend him!!!

We absolutely loved our tour with Johan. He is so knowledgeable and intelligent and was able to answer all of our questions and tell us some really interesting information that we wouldn’t have been able to find out on our own. He brought water and snacks for us and was so wonderful with our 3 children. We stopped for a cocktail and honestly it was such a magical day ... we have been in Cuba for a month and still learnt so many new things about Havana from Johan. Would highly recommend this tour and Johan - he is such a friendly person!

Yohan was a great host. He met with us our first night in Havana to assist us in getting settled there. During our excursion, he was friendly knowledgeable and paced the experience really well. He made it really enjoyable for us as a couple who joined with a family of five for the experience. We developed a really good sense of him as a person, which was such a special treat for a visitor from the USA to Cuba.
