What you'll do

Meet koalas, kangaroos, platypus and other Aussie wildlife in their natural habitats surrounded by stunning mountain scenery in the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, a scenic 45 minute drive south of Canberra city. After some easy guided walks to get up close to the wildlife within special sanctuaries we head around to some open grassy fields to wander amongst the friendly kangaroos and their joeys, and maybe spot a wallaby or emu. All with the serene mountain backdrop and the sound of birds calling in the forest. Along the way, we also call in to the nearby NASA deep space discovery centre to find out how its going with the search for life out there in our solar system.
Other things to note
If the weather is wet we provide raincoats and umbrellas for the wildlife walks and have more time at the visitor centres. I will return you back to your accommodation, or if you prefer, a city restaurant after the trip.

Nature is fascinating, especially to an ecologist like me who has spent the last 12 years of my professional life working in conservation to help create new national parks and protect our forests, rivers and wildlife. Everyday there is something new to discover in the serene mountains and rivers around Canberra, where I've roamed for more than 23 years. There is nothing I love more now than sharing my knowledge and love for our unique Aussie wildlife and how when we look after nature, nature will look after us.

Where you'll be

Lucky your guide knows where to spot the wildlife because you will see more than most - starting with the koalas and the swamp wallabies, and keeping an eye for potoroos (mini kangaroos) then searching the wetland ponds for the shy platypus and a bunch of waterbirds. Out trip is timed to be when more animals come out, and most of the humans have left, so you get to wander quietly with kangaroos and their joeys in the late afternoon light.

You won’t be disappointed with Graham’s your. His passion for and knowledge of the wildlife is superbly delightful. As wildlife biologist he provides so much information about all aspects of the area, the wildlife and the history of it all. This tour absolutely made my stay in Canberra extraordinary. I have photos and videos to share with others and memories for a lifetime.

If you’re considering booking this experience, I’ll save you the trouble of deciding - just do it. It was a wonderful time from start to finish. Graham was helpful and friendly from the start, providing great insights as we drove out of Canberra and taking a route that really allowed us to see the whole city. He obviously got so much joy out of sharing his knowledge, it was a treat. The NASA deep space research center was an awesome little extra. And then of course there were the animals! It was so fun spotting them, from little wallabies and kangaroos with their joeys to koalas and even a platypus. Highly recommend!
