What you'll do

This food & culture walking tour includes a dessert & full lunch at hidden gems over the course of 2 km (1.4 miles).
We’ll start with daytime exploration in Gion, Kyoto's most famous and historic Geisha district. I’ll take you to some off the beaten paths while explaining the historical background of the area and Geisha behind the scenes. We might encounter Geisha hurrying their way. After picking up bits of stories and trivia from the area along the way, we’ll visit a hidden dessert shop favored by local Geisha. I’ll also take you to a secret spot where you can better understand how the local food culture and Kyoto cuisine developed.
For lunch we’ll go to a specialty restaurant dedicated to Tonkatsu, panko-breaded and deep fried pork cutlet that is juicy inside and crispy outside, which is a modern classic in Japan. The type of Tonkatsu you’ll have is high quality lean pork tenderloin that does not become dry when deep-fried. You’ll be surprised how cabbage and rice can taste SO delicious when combined with this incredible Tonkatsu dipped in their secret yummy sauce with a hint of Japanese mustard. Kyoto’s signature pickled vegetables are also served as a side dish.
Other things to note
NOTE:
1. Lunch is a set meal with pork. No other dishes for vegetarians, pescatarians, etc. are available.
2. Please make sure to bring comfortable shoes because we'll walk 2 kilometers.

I’m Chie, a food obsessed Japanese living in Osaka. I’m a technical translator & food tour guide.
I started doing food tours 13 years ago - originally for short term business visitors whom I met through work, with limited access to great local eateries without a local to show them. As a food lover, I couldn’t help taking them to my favorite places and making them smile with great food. My desire of introducing our culture through food is still growing!

We had a fantastic time with Chie! This experience was one of the highlights of our trip and one of the best tours we've ever been on. Chie is very kind and personable - it was a pleasure to spend time with her and learn so much about Kyoto and Japanese food. I'd recommend this experience to anyone visiting Kyoto!
