What you'll do
The history of Zanzibar would be incomplete without the cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper and many other spices which brought the Sultans of Oman and the beginnings of the infamous slave trade. They can be seen in the plantations just outside Zanzibar town, and a good tour includes opportunities to dazzle the senses with fresh spices. We have developed a special Spice Tour with in depth information not only about spices, but also herbs and a detailed description about their uses in medicine cosmetics and cooking. We will show you the traditional natural herbal medicine plants and their uses, herbal creams and beauty products produced of his organically grown spices and herbs. After the tour we invite for an opulent lunch, where you can taste the spices and fruits you saw before. This is also the place to purchase fresh spices and spice oils.
Other things to note
We will be walking in the farm so proper clothes and shoes are to be noted.

Just a guy from Zanzibar, Tanzania in a mission to explore the world! I think we live in Paradise :) I have been working in the tourism sector for the last 6 years, I have hosted a lot of these trips already. I have experienced guides and all the guests who have done this tour were left satisfied and even book the same trip again!
I will be hosting this experience with Mustaffa who is going to be your guide :)

Where you'll be
I will be in Stone near the Forodhani Garden and exactly at the entrance to the Old Fort. The tour itself will be offered on a Spice Farm which is 20 minutes or less drive from Stone Town near the Bububu area part of the Zanzibar Town. For guests staying out of town the trip can be arranged at an extra cost for transportation.

I enjoyed this tour a lot and learned so much. Louis was very nice and even picked me from my hotel (near Stone Town) without extra cost. A co-host did the spice tour with me and explained a lot, answered all my questions and spoke English and France very well. There is so much to tell about the plants and spices, what the are used for medicine or cooking and so on. We had nice lunch under a shady tree, with fruit tasting and there was never a sign of rush or hurry. All my questions were answered and we had some interesting conversation about Zanzibar, the people and a lot more. Louis was waiting meanwhile and took me to a place I had to go in Stone Town, then we had coffee and he told me a lot of informations what to do in Zanzibar (he is offering more events). He also organized a transfer for the next day for me. Very nice and highly recommended. Thank you!!

Thanks Louis for a nice informative tour! Louis speaks English fluently, is very communicative and relates many interesting anecdotes about Zanzibar and about his own travels. He picked us up and delivered us back to the hotel safely. The tour of the spice farm was done by someone who belongs to that community. It’s interesting to see the different plants where known spices actually come from.
