What you'll do

We will meet in Runaway Bay on the North Coast by 9.30am.

First, we will visit the bustling market place of St Ann's Bay on the North Coast to give you a chance to look at and learn about all the various Jamaican fruits and local produce on display and you have the opportunity to buy if you wish.

We'll then visit Nigel's 100 acre Farm in Runaway Bay and see how vegetables like sweet potatoes and yams , also fruit like soursap and papaya are grown. You can pick the produce for our Cook Out lunch yourselves. We always end up with a basket full of fresh seasonal produce to take home.

You'll also have the opportunity to hike while you are on the farm and end up at the top for a spectacular sea view.

After the Cook-Out we'll drive back to Runaway Bay at the pick up point.

Don't just spend your holiday in Jamaica in the tourist areas , get to know another real and beautifully rugged part of the island and experience a cook-out with real Jamaican cuisine and rum with happy fun loving locals. This is a great opportunity for visitors to the island to travel inland through the hills and see another side of Jamaica.

I am Wayne Watson, I was born in a small rural town in Jamaica on the north of the island in the 'garden' parish of St Ann.

I know all the inner areas around the small market town called Brown's Town and St Ann's Market and remember the excitement of being taken to this very busy and bustling market as a kid.

I also know the rural farming community of Watt Town, a quaint little town where locals are always happy to see and talk to visitors, full of tiny rum bars.
I have taken some of my Airbnb guests there on a stop and go tour, stop at a bar, have a chat with the locals and go. Please note, due to Covid-19 the bars may be inaccessible.

Where you'll be

Nigel's Farm is on the island's North Coast so it is away from the tourist areas but within the Resilience Corridor. This trip provides the opportunity for visitors to travel off the bustling tourist track accompanied by an Airbnb Superhost.

St. Ann’s Bay remains a popular destination for those seeking a more traditional Jamaican experience and the busy market is full of local produce.

Ally and Wayne are friendly and down to earth people that are very informative about Brown's town market and showing us the different types of fruits and vegetables. They showed us where the mining that is taken place in the mountains. They even introduced us to a sweet knowledgeable couple that were both nearly a hundred years old that is still living up in the mountains. The environment reminded me of back in some of the southern parts of the US. Their down to earth hospitality was great. Great experience!
