What you'll do

Brunch to most is a late morning meal, typically with some form of bubbly drinks. So follow me & discover my definition of brunch.

Tucked in a small market is one of my favorite spots: Gamjatang (pork backbone stew). Sitting in an unpretentious eatery filled with uncles, & served savory, earthy, filling stew with big chunky backbone. Eat it Sam-style; with an addition of instant noodle, sipping every bit soup, eating succulent pork off the bones, & ending it with Korean style fried rice made to order.

But what's brunch without a little bit of bubbly, right? I'll introduce you to the world of strange yet delicious Korean canned drinks as we walk to our next destination.

When we arrive, this quaint place will be bustling with people waiting to feast on pre-grilled smokey meat wrapped in various side dishes on a lettuce leaf. This place is a former taxi driver restaurant, now a place for you to enjoy one-person-portion grilled meat!

Of course, one should never skip dessert! We'll feast on insta-worthy, traditional pumpkin bingsu or aesthetically pleasing Korean teas. This Hanok was built in 1903, so you'll be dining in one of the most well-preserved traditional Korean houses.
Other things to note
- I cannot accommodate dietary preferences such as vegan/vegetarian/pescatarian/etc. Foods contain Pork/Beef/etc.
- Food can be just a little spicy.
- It is close to Palaces and Furniture Museum.

Where you'll be

The Sungshin Women's Uni & Hansung Uni stations are familiar to me as I've spent quite a lot of time with my also food-obsessed fiancé eating late breakfast. Typically not mentioned as go-to university areas in travel-to-Korea blog posts, these areas are filled with hidden Korean gems that you might miss out without a Korean guide. Great areas to add more colors onto your K-experience!

Fun food tour. Sam was very personable and as it was only the 4 people in our family he really adjusted the tour to us and the older adults really connected and enjoyed his personality. All the food was amazing. The pumpkin bingsoo and gamjatang stands out but really we appreciated how kind Sam was and he also was so nice to help us with directions and order taxi services on his own dime to help the adults who had difficulty walking. Awesome tour would definitely recommend.

Not only did Sam provide us with a delicious “off the beaten path” food tour but his unique background growing up abroad while still firmly rooted in Korean culture was the icing on the cake. He provided thoughtful insight about the Korean education system and workforce, Korea’s video gaming culture, K-pop, beauty products, cuisine and so much more. We stuffed ourselves on the “hangover” potato stew, paleo style grilled pork lettuce wraps with clam soup and washed it all down with traditional tea in a historic tea house with a dessert of pumpkin mash and red bean atop milky shaved ice! Thanks Sam!

This experience was one of our highlights in Seoul. Sam’s unique life experience having grown up abroad yet still firmly rooted in Korean culture provided our small group with unique insight, that we would have not otherwise been able to experience. All the food we had was absolutely delicious! The tea house was by far my favorite part. Sam really took the time to educate us on the local culture and cuisine. Sam hopes to one day open his own restaurant - I cannot wait to be a customer!

Sam was very friendly and welcoming! He took us to a part of town, I'm not sure I would have ever seen if it wasn't for his tour. (Btw, I came in cherry blossom season, and that area was absolutely beautiful during this time). The food was great and you eat at local places I don't think you would find by yourself. I loved the bone soup and also the 2nd taxi restaurant. Happy I did the tour and got to see that side of town. Thank you Sam!
