What you'll do

Begin the day with a visit to Gandan Monastery, the seat of Buddhism in Mongolia. It was the only active monastery allowed to operate during the country's communists reigns of the 20th century.

Next, visit the National Museum of Mongolia where you will learn about the country's history from its pre-historic times to its post democratic period. Its hall of Ethnography will introduce the traditional ornaments of Mongolians and the 13th Century Hall will showcase interesting weapons and tools used during the Great Mongol Empire.

Next, visit the Military Museum of Mongolia. This often overlooked museum offers interesting perspective and insight into the country's past through ancient weapons, artcrafts and interpretive model showcases.

After lunch, drive outside of Ulaanbaatar to visit the 7th century monument complex known as Tonyukuk monuments. Learn about pre-13th century steppe empires followed by a visit to the largest Equestrian Statue of Chinggis Khan in the world. We will conclude the journey by driving back to UB.
