What you'll do

You will be picked up at the station closest to the venue that night.
We go to an Izakaya to have a pre-drink before the event. Would love to answer any of your questions about the music scene here and most importantly, the culture. It's quite a fascinating one.
Head to the venue and meet some of the best people in the independent Tokyo music scene.

Simple and fun.
Other things to note
All events are hand-picked meaning I can't promise you one genre over another. You can always message me in advance a month before the event to have a better idea of what I selected. It'll be great

Tokyo has a very unique music scene that most tourists overlook. Concerts are at small venues with intimate crowds that pay attention to every note being played. I've been fortunate enough to have played so many incredible intimate venues in Tokyo and across Japan and I would love to share with you the unique music scene here that I've grown to love.
The nights I plan are all random, which is the way it should be. Expect everything from a J-pop to a hardcore event. I handcraft each night each month to make sure my guests get the essence of the music scene in Tokyo. I assure it'll be fun.

Where you'll be

We can meet just outside the North Exit.
Once we meet, I'll take you to one of the local spots in the area for a drink.
I love small local izakayas where popping in for a few drinks before heading out to the event.
After feeling good, it's time to head to the venue.

We loved our hangout with Alan! He was really friendly and super knowledgeable about Tokyo in general and the music science. We started the evening with beers and yakitori, where two of his friends met up with us. They were great company! We ended up going to a random rooftop bbq with DJs spinning and there was also a separate dance room with another DJ. We had so much fun, and we love telling people about the experience because it was so delightfully weird. We would do it again, hands down. :)

Had an awesome time seeing live music with Alan. Would not have been able to see the music I did on my own.

As Alan himself admits, this experience is unpredictable. You don't know where you're going to end up and you don't know what acts will come up. However, Alan knows how to find good spots, as evidenced by our trip to Kichijoji. From delicious eats of yakitori and abura soba, to our music destination of a fairly busy but not packed venue, with lots of drinks in between, Alan kept the experience busy. I was glad to have come this night, because the bands were definitely killing it--the second band in particular was sweating profusely as they riffed like no other. As someone who is only now trying to see live music, this was a very helpful endeavor. Alan provided much information on the live music scene here in Japan, from the style of music that's popular to the struggles of logsitics and production of being a small band in this big city. He also endeavored to answer all the questions I had honestly and openly, especially when many of those questions drifted into discussions of Japanese society and a little far away from the topic of music! It's clear from his credentials and his rapport with the musicians and those around him that he knows what he's doing. Although the tickets may be pricey for a venue event, I assure the curious that this is a worthy experience, one that I imagine will only get better as Alan himself strives to improve and widen his perspectives of the music scene here, even after 9 years. For those looking for an intimate look at Japanese life where both musicians and audience come to unwind and vent through music, this is a must-see.

This experience was nothing short of saikou (Japanese word I learned from Alan meaning awesome or surpreme)! He is genuine and friendly, coupled with his expertise of the local scene, created a truly authentic experience. We had a change of plans but I was still super happy with the local bands. So much so, I was a fangirl that bought one of the band, Yean's album. The venue was perfectly intimate where the bands could mingle with the crowd. I had Yean sign their album and even took a pic with them. Arigato gozimasu Alan for a wonderful night! I hope to see you again.
