What you'll do

Peaceful, elegant, detailed, subtle... These are the words we have heard from our guests who attended the tea ceremony experience. Tea ceremony is a form of art that represents the Japanese culture. And interestingly, it reflects not just the aestethic sense of traditonal Japan but also the philosophy and spirituality. Experience a tea ceremony wil give you a deeper understanding of the Japanese culture. Our tea ceremony experience will be held in a small tea room which can have up to 5 guests. We will keep the session small-sized for the better communication and to hold the session in an authentic atmosphere. After a brief introduction of matcha tea and the history, the host will prepare tea carefully following the tradition. The session is designed for guests who have never experienced tea ceremony before. We will explain the rules and manners so please do not worry. You will be able to feel "Japan" through the whole experience.

Atsuko

I am Atsuko. It's almost three years since I moved into Kyoto and started a career as a tea house manager and an English tea ceremony guide. Before that, I had worked for an international hotel in Tokyo and learned a lot through my ten-year experience there. I always take pride in welcoming people and offering service where every guest would feel happy and comfortable. I am now devoted myself to the tea ceremony, which represents Japanese culture and has been an ultimate way of hospitality since the old times. Looking forward to having a tea ceremony with guests from all over the world!

Where you'll be

The whole program will be held at Chasanraku, a tea house conveniently located in the center of Arashiyama. We start the experience before the shop opens. It will be quieter in the morning so we are sure that you can enjoy the peaceful moment in our tea room. The shop is new, only 2 years old but was designed and constructed elaborately by artisans in Kyoto.
