What you'll do

We will hike two out of the way trails starting in “Agua Garcia” where we will survey the Laurisilva forest; a unique mountain forest ecosystem that is almost extinct in the rest of Europe. Here you will also explore caves dug in the XVI century to extract minerals to create glass, as well as encounter the oldest native Viñátigo tree (Persea indica), at over 800 years old. Next, we will head to “La Esperanza” where we will hike a trail in a mid-altitude pine forest. Here you will experience the beautiful landscape and the indigenous pineland ecosystem which has adapted over the centuries to resist forest fires. These two distinct hikes will showcase the wonderful natural diversity of this beautiful island, its varied geology, and endemic plants and animals. Each hiking trail will take approximately an hour and a half at a normal walking pace, and only requires that you be in moderately good physical condition. Our tour groups are small with a maximum of two people.
Other things to note
Our tour group size is small, so you receive an intimate experience.
Guest should be able to walk and climb up to a difficulty level of moderate.
Weather changes unexpectedly.
No flip-flops allowed.

My partner, Ramon, and I are both long time outdoor and nature enthusiasts. During college I became extremely interested in geology, and took many courses related to nature such as: Natural Disasters, Ecology, Oceanography, Environment Science & Sustainability and Earth Science. Ramon is a native of Tenerife, a keen amateur volcanologist, and long time member of a local environmental organization called Volcanoes of the Canary Islands. We enjoy sharing our local knowledge with others, and have been offering personalized tours to our Airbnb guests over the past years.

If you have any question regarding this tour or any of my other tours, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I would be happy to provide additional information and assistance.

Great to see two parts of the beautiful nature and forest in the north of Tenerife. In case you have no time to explore where to go for nature walks, it is helpful to go with a guide like M. I am not quite convinced why the price is as high as it was. Anyway still a very pleasant experience and a friendly, knowledgeable and helpful guide.

We have done with M and Ramon the two hiking trails in the forests. We spend a beautiful day with them, M has really good communication skills and he's very kind and passionate. He has a lot knowledge and interresting anecdotes to share. An activity that we highly recommend to people who wish to discover a part of Tenerife's nature diversity by an original way and outside the tourist ballads.

It was a really nice experience. We learned a lot about the forest, the island, and the history of the country. Both of the guiders are quite passionate and hospital. We walked two tours in two different and typical forests (I love the first one and my friend love the second). Anyway, we did enjoy the tour.

Where do I even begin?! This was the only Experience I booked on this trip and am I glad I saved a whole day for it. Ramon and M are extremely welcoming and easy going! That sets off the right tone for the entire experience and it feels no different to hanging out with friends on a sunny day. The car trip was well spent with the guys giving me a history lesson on Tenerife, stuff I hadn't read before! We started out at Agua Garcia and I was blown over by how different you feel in that forest coming from the blazing sands of the coast down south. M knows his stuff and could keep the conversation going for the entirety of the trail. Nooks and corners one would normally overlook open up their secrets to M and he points them out to you with clarity. As mentioned in the description, the trail is not hard and takes less than two hours. As promised, we barely saw any other tourists on the trail. This trail is a hidden gem and you get to bask in the forests' tranquility all by yourself. Before you even realize it, two hours have passed and you're back at the starting point of the trail. A half hour car trip takes you to La Esperanza. The diversity of the two forests left me simply awestruck. How on earth does this mound of landmass formed by a volcano offer so much variety in such a small space? The pine forests were a treat, warmer than Agua Garcia, drier and if the weather Gods are as good as they were to me, you will be treated to spectacular views of the ocean and the Gran Canaria. The pine forests here are special as M will explain to you. As M explains that he and Ramon are often here on this trail even without guests you understand these guys are truly doing this out of love for nature. If I lived in Tenerife I'd probably hang out thrice a week in these forests too. The guys took pictures of me on the trail which was really cool! On the way back to La Laguna, I got a few more tips from Ramon and M regarding Tenerife and I'm sure I'll be back again soon to experience more of Tenerife! Hopefully Ramon and M soon add more Experiences covering their other favourite trails!

A great way to get to know more about the region and to have an interesting nature tour with good company. Many thanks from Matti!"
