A New Orleans native I am very familiar with the history and development of the city of New Orleans. I've worked with Le Musée de f.p.c. for over five years helping to develop the tours and events hosted at the location. With the assistance of our amazing team we've been able to grow the tour to the amazing cultural experience that is like no other in the city of New Orleans.

Where you'll be

Le Musée is located on Esplanade Avenue, centered in the area known as upper Treme. Esplanade Avenue has always been noted for its gracious homes and abundant greenery. Little known is that free people of color owned numerous properties along the avenue and its intersecting streets in the antebellum period.

This was a great experience. I learned more about the experience of people of color in New Orleans and even had a chance to meet one of the founders, Mrs. McKenna. This was a great history lesson, and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Very engaging. Lots of history. Beautiful location.

I've had this museum on my list of places to visit in New Orleans for years and finally got the chance to experience it. I appreciated having a dedicated guide talk us through the McKenna's collection. There are many misconceptions around the black history of New Orleans and our guide addressed them all. The exhibit area may seem small but the wealth of heritage and history packed in the rooms is greater than that of a major museum you could visit. This is a must-see!

Fascinating look at a group I thought I knew about. There was so much history that was new to me. It's a small gem of a museum, but I still felt I could have spent even longer there. Great value.

This is a lovingly maintained testament to the perseverance of people of color in New Orleans. Ms. Winona and Kim (the passionate custodians and curators of this lovely house) were incredibly knowledgeable and willing to answer our questions. Take an hour of your day and go learn about the people who built the New Orleans we see today.
