What you'll do

This is a half day hands on course where students will learn the practicalities and principles of how to bake different kinds of basic bread. We will first discuss the key ingredients to make good bread then mix, knead and shape various doughs. During the course of the session we will make a plain white or wholemeal loaf and buns, a seeded dough, a soda bread and a fougasse. We will explore different rising agents, the best baking conditions and the equipment needed. There will be plenty of time for questions. Please note this class focusses on gluten based breads only.
Class sizes are small, no more than 4 to ensure you will gain individual attention and have time to ask questions
No previous experience in bread or baking is expected.
All students are actively encouraged to roll their sleeves up and get sticky and floury. Tie your hair back, wear comfortable clothes and shoes and bring an apron. A light lunch/ supper will be served during the course. And tea, coffee, soft drinks will be readily available. At the end of the course you will be presented with a bag of goodies created by your own fair hands with recipes, guidance, recommended bread books, links and stockists.
Other things to note
This course is suitable for complete beginners and also those with some experience of bread making. All breads are made with wheat and gluten.

Where you'll be

The course will be held at my home address in Isleworth, south west London. We will work mainly in the kitchen and the living room.

Brenda was very knowledgeable about bread-making. She let us into her home where she showed us how to make several types of breads and we got to take them home! It was a lovely experience. Definitely recommend to the bread lovers out there.

Things to know

Cancellation policy

Any experience can be cancelled and fully refunded within 24 hours of purchase, or at least 7 days before the experience starts.

Government ID

You’ll need to take a picture of yourself that matches the photo on your ID. This is so Airbnb can confirm who’s actually going on the experience. You’ll only have to do this once.

Guest requirements

Up to 3 guests ages 16 and up can attend.

What to bring

An apron if you have one, and an appetite for learning about real bread. I have spare aprons!

Comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting floury. This is a hands on course and you can expect to get floury / sticky hands.
