What you'll do

***For your safety, we will only accept private groups (2 pers. minimum) during the COVID19 crisis (e.g : if you book for 2 pers., there won't be any other traveller with you)***

Live a unique experience off the beaten tracks and travel back in time to the Stone Age…

After a 30mn drive from Sarlat in a comfortable van, we will reach a hidden gem : my favourite prehistoric painted cave.

Before the guided tour of the cave (you will join a small group with the official guide of the cave), I will show you the different paleolithic technologies used to make a fire, to light up in a cave and to paint.

This prehistoric cave is unique for several reasons :
- this is an original painted cave (not a copy like Lascaux 4) with a beautiful geology (stalactites, stalagmites, columns..)
- these are the oldest prehistoric paintings done by Cro-Magnon man in the area (30 000 years). You will discover black and red paintings of ice age animals (ibexes, mammoths, horses, megaceros ..) but also human representations which is very rare in paleolithic art.

At least 2 travellers are required for this experience to take place in accordance with the french legislation.

The was incredible. Unique and memorable. The cave is extraordinary and it’s a powerful feeling to stand in a place where prehistoric people gathered and made music and art. David is passionately interested in prehistory. He was far more knowledgeable than the more official guides in Lasceaux and the other caves. This is unbeatable (and I’m not prone to hyperbole!)

David started our tour with a detailed demonstration of the early cave painting techniques and a history of the peoples who shared their art on these walls. This cave was a unique cave and it felt like a very private tour of a very special place. Well worth getting beyond the typical tourist attraction to enjoy a special experience. David is very open to questions of all types about the caves, early people living in this area and even truffle growing.
