Back in 2011, I founded TheGeneralCo as a community based creative studio, to foster collaborations amongst local designers, craftsmen & artisans. The aim was to share our knowledge of the slow process of making & to allow the public to better appreciate the value of craft.

Since then our regular craft workshops have been a hit amongst locals & visitors alike to learn more about the local craft movement.

Our workshops are conducted by aspiring craftsmen, each in specialised fields, pursuing what they love, spreading their knowledge & passion for their crafts

This was a quite an awesome experience: the things you make are super cool and useful! Colin is a very good teacher; the materials and all the explanations are really interesting. Besides the goods, to be able to know a bit more about the Singapore crafts scene was really great! Definately an experience to book: you learn, spend a good time and go out with a few new items made by yourself :)

It has been a great experience in Singapore. Colin is very communicative, knowledgeable in crafting, branding and creative related industry and he offered a valuable chance to get to know much about how craftsman works and brands do in Singapore. Same time Colin guided me to experience to make a canvas bag with leather tote. But this is more than just making a bag. It did offer a great chance to get closer to see how is actually craftsman's daily work.

This is a top 3 highlight of my 12-day trip to Singapore. If you are at all interested in craft goods, especially leather and canvas goods, then you owe it to yourself to take this experience. I myself am a bit of a gear-holic (think homemade leather journal and a subscription to Gear Patrol) and I thoroughly enjoyed nerding out with Collin over the finer details of leather working. Collin really takes the time to explain the craft good scene in Singapore and really patient during the hands-on crafting segment. I really enjoyed walking around the Jalan Basar neighborhood and especially the local coffee shop and downstairs restaurant (the coffee and food are both AMAZING). This is definitely not an experience to miss! I would give it 6/5 stars if possible :)

I had such a great craft day out with Colin. He enthusiastically shared insights into the industrial area of Jalan Besar, craftmanship, and Singapore in general. I loved walking around the area (despite the rain!) and finding hardware specialty shops. It was lovely spending time in the tool shop with Colin learning his craft and making something special to take home. Highly recommend!
