What you'll do
1) We depart Wanaka and pick up from your Wanaka accommodation at 11:00am with the Māori greeting the Hongi establishing the connection with you the guest and the Māori people of New Zealand and the land, then with a 5 minute drive to Aitkens Folly or Rippon where a selection of Pinot Noir, Gris, Sav Blanc and more will be in tasting. The second winery being Māori Point near Tarras, then we visit the Dessert Heart winery. Then onto either Mt Difficulty, Wooing Tree or Akarua before our drive back to Wanaka. Along this tour you will get a insight into the Māori footprint and history from many hundreds of years ago of the beautiful Otago region and the Queenstown and Wanaka region. We aim to get back to your accommodation about 3pm, but to be honest the experiences always go about an hour over time because we have so much fun!!!!

I'm of Māori heritage. My great-great-great-grandparents were among the first people to settle in Central Otago. I have a deep love for this area and a strong connection to it and an even stronger connection to the wines in it as well. I want to share my passion for Māori culture and our local wines and offer you a personal journey through our history and region.
Where you'll be
We will visit the southern most vineyards in the world in the Wanaka, Tarras and Bannockburn region that produce amazing, award winning wines. We may visit Old Cromwell Town an historic gold rush town from the 1860's that offers an amazing insight into the history of Central Otago and along the way an immersion into Māori footprint in this region from the 1300's to 1800's which will enlighten and educate your complete New Zealand experience.

Had a gorgeous time with “the pebble” - a genuinely wonderful and humble guy that loves what he does. So welcoming, insightful and fun to be around. Couldn’t recommend the man highly enough. If you’re in Wanaka DO THIS TRIP! You can learn about the indigenous history of the island and drink some of the best wine in the area. What’s not to love!?

Joe was amazing. Right from the moment the picked us up he explained traditional Maori greeting. Also, he gave a lot of history throughout the ride between the wineries. Aside from that though he made a conscious effort to bond with us - talking about how to live and care for this land. Joe went above and beyond and really felt like being at home hanging out with a friend.

Joe is an absolute gem of a human being and I thoroughly enjoyed the time I got to spend with him and the others on this amazing wine tour. Joe makes sure to connect you to the local culture and bring you in to the family of the Maori culture of New Zealand. He has such a zest and passion for his culture and life in general. One can honestly not stop smiling while on this tour and it’s not just because of the delicious wines. Joe knew the answer to each and every question I had while making me feel at home in New Zealand. Please do yourself a favor and take this tour. It’s phenomenal. When I return to Wanaka with friends and family, I will definitely be treating them to this experience. As a side note, the wineries are also fantastic. The wines were spectacular and some of my favorites I have ever tasted. It’s extremely unique to have wines that are irrigated via glacial waters in incredible micro climates. I came home with several bottles. Book this tour now:)
