My name is Rabbi Yoni Katz and I was born in Netanya, Israel. Now, I’m a proud Brooklynite. Several years ago, I launched a campaign called “Unite the Beards” to unify the various demographics that were rapidly changing the face of Brooklyn. I aimed to welcome our new neighbors and grow beyond our differences. This led to the birth of JewishBrooklyn.nyc, which offers visitors from all across the world an inside look at the “people of the book.”

There’s a reason this is one of the most popular experiences in NY. Put the selfies and tourist stuff on hold, take the trip out to Crown Heights, and spend a few hours “living” the Hasidic way. Unique opportunity to set foot inside the Hasidic community and to do so feeling like an invited guest. Mayer will happily answer everything you always wanted to know about Hasidic Judaism but were afraid to ask. They even feed you! Sincere thanks to Mayer, his mom, and everyone we met along the way.

This experience was incredible! I highly recommend it because is a way different to learn more about the community. The family was just kind, nice and open to listen and explain any questions❤️ If you come to NY or if you live here please DO this tour, it’s absolutely perfect if you want to explore other culture and open your eyes to the world around you.

I wish this experience could go on for another three hours, meaning, we do our walking tour, take a group lunch break, then come back again to learn three more hours -- I am SO GLAD that I took this tour as the take away of my Brooklyn memories, it feels like New York has touched me with what New York has been about, full of soul; I didn't know much about Judaism before I came to this experience, Mayer (Yoni's brother) is such an amazing speaker for his culture and community, it made me reflect on my own culture and community after the tour was over; my appreciation of New York has grown after Mayer's introduction of the Hasidic way of life, and to gather with like-minded people who are open and respectful of diversity and differences was the most beautiful way I could end any vacation. Sending waves of gratitude from TODAY, highly recommend this experience to anyone who is curious enough to learn both about themselves and the world.

Mayer and Yoni’s tour was such a meaningful and interesting experience! I especially enjoyed being invited into Mayer’s home in Crown Heights, sitting around the table learning about Hasidic Judaism, and getting to speak with his mother, who showed us around her kosher kitchen. We visited several Hasidic and traditional places around the neighborhood and were shown a very different side of NYC with a lot of thoughtful explanation, thanks to Mayer. I learned so much through speaking with Mayer and the people he introduced us to and appreciated his additional suggestions for exploring the neighborhood. 150% recommend!
