What you'll do

We will meet at a beautiful natural area in or around Burlington for a 2 hour Forest Bathing Walk. “Forest Bathing” and “taking in the atmosphere of the forest” are both direct translations of Shinrin-Yoku. Shinrin-Yoku is the scientifically backed Japanese tradition of nature immersion for wellness that began in 1982 and is just now catching on in the United States.

Your ANFT Certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide, Duncan will then offer a series of “invitations” to help you explore nature through your senses in new and deeply familiar ways. The walk will consist of time for solitude in nature and moments talk with the group about your experience in the “way of council”: a practice in authenticity, compassion and deep listening.

The experience will be completed with a wildcrafted tea ceremony in the forest served in traditional hand crafted Japanese tea cups.
Other things to note

Great experience with Duncan. Nothing is pushed. Everything is tailored to comfort levels although there is an invitation to push those boundaries if so desired. I will be incorporating this into my daily/weekly routine. This is something you can take with you wherever you go.

Duncan was so knowledgeable about the land, the plants, the history of the property, and forest bathing. He made us feel comfortable and engaged, even though this was a bit out of our element. We would definitely do this again!

Forest bathing was a special experience and I am glad I did it. Duncan was a wonderful host and made sure he explained everything thoughtfully while letting everyone make his/her own experience. We were a small group and he made us all feel very comfortable. I am familiar with different mindful techniques, but this gave me the opportunity to learn and experience something new. I loved the tea ceremony in the end.

My 15 year old son and I went Forest Bathing with Duncan this morning, and it was a wonderful experience! It was very peaceful, and we both left feeling relaxed, recharged, and very appreciative. Instructions for getting to the meeting spot were very clear, and we began with an introduction to Forest Bathing. Duncan made us feel at ease immediately, and explained what Forest Bathing was and wasn’t (I’ll leave that for him to explain-if you’re reading this, you’re likely interested, sign up now). Then we embarked, and let Duncan and nature work their magic. I would describe the experience as meditative and peaceful, and you’ll leave feeling a deeper connection with nature, and yourself. Tips: wear long sleeves and pants in light colors, bring bug spray and an open mind. :) Finally, my son truly enjoyed it as much as I did. He’s a typical 15-year-old whose passions are sports, texting, and Fortnite. I’m so glad we did this, you should sign up for a session immediately. Cheers!
