What you'll do

I meet guests at Milson's Point train station where we proceed to walk to Seidler's office complex. Here is where we get to see elements of his work that will echo throughout the walk. From this vantage point we will also view Sydney's first and most controversial tall apartment block. We then continue past Luna Park and Lavender Bay where we discuss Brett Whiteley and walk through Wendy Whiteley's garden. From here we walk the Bridge pausing at the Sirius Building. From here we make our way through The Rocks noting some significant street art. Our next stop is up George street where we enter two examples of Seidler's work as well as contrasting them to the new EY Building. From here we move to Australia Square. From here we enter the Angel Arcade and proceed to the Capita Building. Next and final stop is the MLC Tower. At all these destinations we engage with the architecture, art and history of the sites. At this point guests have easy access to public transport.
Other things to note
The walk is roughly 2-3 hours long. A reasonable level of fitness is required as we will be climbing some steps in places. Milson's Point station is not busy so we can meet easily. Meeting time: 10am

I began my first walking tour group in Bangkok while I was living there some years ago. My walks took in many different aspects of Bangkok but I became increasingly interested in Art and Architecture. Sydney is my home town and upon my most recent return I began developing small art and architecture walks. I am particularly interested in modernism and the work of Australia's greatest modernist architect, Harry Seidler. He was also passionate about modern art and many of his buildings contain sculptures, murals, paintings and tapestries.

Paul’s walk opened my eyes to parts of Sydney I never knew existed even though I’m a Sydneysider. The walk takes you to some of the most iconic views in the city as well as some of its most quirky and picturesque lanes and gardens. Paul gave a comprehensive and well informed account of Seidler’s history and the development and architectural significance of his most impressive Sydney CBD buildings. A very enjoyable and informative tour.

We loved this walking tour. Paul not only knows his stuff - he is passionate about Seidler's architecture and that of Seidler's contemporaries, mentors and friends. Paul's genuine enthusiasm is contagious. I liked learning about Seidler's background, and visiting other sights in the area as well as Seidler's buildings, eg Wendy Whiteley's secret garden. We covered a lot of ground, and the walk over the Harbour Bridge was very special. Thanks, Paul. We're already looking forward to your next tour!

This was a great walk and an excellent way to spend a morning in Sydney and which opened my eyes and mind to Seidler’s architecture. Paul is an excellent guide who is not only extremely knowledgable on the subject of Harry Seidler but he passed on lots of interesting information on public and street art, social history, and areas and buildings we passed on our walk. It was fascinating to hear not only about Seidler’s designs but his links with developers, engineers, artists and designers as well as his family. I finished the walk with a better understanding of his influence on Sydney architecture and its skyline and great admiration for his design. As well as the Seidler buildings it was a bonus to visit Wendy Whitley’s Garden and to walk across the bridge en route. This tour was excellent value and most enjoyable and I thoroughly recommend it.

This was a great experience. I didn't know much about the architect before coming to it, and the experience of learning more about Harry Seidler and his perspective from on location was really fascinating. Paul was wonderfully knowledgeable about Seidler and clearly passionate about the topic. On the day I joined it, there was a ton of rain, but I still enjoyed the tour immensely. You won't regret going on this tour!

Wow—what a wonderful experience! Paul’s knowledge, storytelling and insights about the design and architecture of Harry Seidler were thorough and entertaining. He also spoke about other artists, designers and engineers whose collaboration was an integral part of Seidler’s work. Paul’s genuine excitement about Sydney and its architecture as it relates to the philosophy of the Modern art and architecture was refreshing to experience. He was passionate about the buildings and public art that he showed us and was generous with his knowledge. We feel that we now have a deeper understanding of Sydney and its place among the large urban centers of the world.
