Travel sketchbooking & sunset in Guanajuato!

Guanajuato, Mexico

Experience hosted by Pau

2.5 hours
Includes tickets, equipment
Up to 6 people
Hosted in Spanish, English, Italian

What you'll do

For those of you with less time during your visit, this is the short version of "Urban Sketching & a meal in Guanajuato". Meeting in front of the famous Teatro Juarez, we'll start the adventure by taking the funicular to the Pípila belvedere, where I will explain some bases about the fast techniques of travel drawing, I will tell you a little about the history of the place and we will draw the city from the heights!

Descending on foot to the center of the city, we will capture in our notebooks (provided by me) details of the streets and alleys, discorvering the way in which the locals live it, drawing the Campanero bridge, the Mexiamora square, the Baratillo fountain and one of the most interesting sections of the underground. In our 2.5 hours together, above all, we will learn and practice all about the art of the "travel diary" with this beautiful colonial city as our model, encouraging you to continue after our drawing tour and back home!
Other things to note
If you have another schedule available, do not hesitate to contact me.

Wear comfortable shoes, it is also recommended to wear a hat or cap in case it's a sunny day.

You don't need to know how to draw! Feel free to bring your favorite materials.

An interior architect born in Mexico City, I came to live in Guanajuato a few months ago, after studying a master degree in Architectural Design and History in Italy. Along with this, I completed my artistic education through several natural drawing classes in the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving "La Esmeralda", as well as Watercolor courses in the National Museum of Watercolour. I teach university level drawing and I'm co-founder of the mexican handicrafts shop Del Mismo Barro, devoted to the diffusion of crafts and mexican culture!

I love making my guests feel like home, teaching travel sketchbooking as a tool to be aware of the beauty in our surroundings and to experiment with new techniques ;)

If you're looking for a longer version of this immersion in mexican culture, and would like to taste some typical dishes with me, I invite you to check out my experience "Tour, sketching & a meal in Guanajuato" https://www.airbnb.mx/experiences/374151

Where you'll be

During this walking workshop we will visit places that challenge us in the practice of drawing or which have something interesting to contribute regarding perspective, color, shape and history: the lookout of the Pípila, ( by funicular), the Campanero bridge, the plaza Mexiamora, the Baratillo Fountain and the less crowded section of the underground. If there is time, we can visit the Rayas belvedere from where we can appreciate and draw Mellado's temple.

This time with Pau was the highlight of my trip to Guanojuato. She shares her talent as an artist and her knowledge of the city in a very delightful and personal way. I will remember and use her ideas and her journaling skills in the future. She is a gem!

Pau was a great guide. From the perspective of first time visitors trying to see the city outside the prominent attractions, it was a very good tour through the history of how and why the city is the way it is and what went into making it the Guanajuato we walk today. And if you're into watercoloring, she's got vantages and views that you otherwise wouldn't find unless you knew the city intimately. I'd definitely recommend!

Pau is wonderful. My son and I couldn't make it to one of her scheduled classes, so she set time aside for an experience with just us. We loved walking around and hearing stories she shared about magical Guanajuato! Pau is extremely talented, kind, and was very encouraging with my son (he's 11). We both left feeling inspired to practice travel sketching...and we felt we made a friend too! Thank you, Pau!

Muchas gracias Pau!
