Chasing Trails

Cape Town, South Africa

Experience hosted by Luke

2 hours
Includes equipment
Up to 6 people
Hosted in English

What you'll do

Get a feel for Cape Town’s unique geography under your own two feet, explore secret running routes with local guidance, and experience “pure trail stoke” on singletrack terrain or similar.

We will meet up, have a chat about running options and pacing, then choose a good run route suited to your ability and the weather conditions of the day. Once we have a plan, we will head out and explore the trails.

Note: this run is not only for experienced trail runners. We are flexible and quite happy to run with those not too keen on heavily technical trails too. No need to be a trail guru or a superfit freaky runner type. We have many options available and will choose the right fit for you.
Other things to note
Bring all-weather running gear. Cape Town's weather can vary from hot to rainy and back again within the hour. It's also great to have a small hydration running backpack with some water on board.

A hopelessly addicted runner, I'm a veteran of many ultra-distance races and a winner of Cape Town’s legendary 80km PUFfeR Trail Run. I explore my neighborhood daily via trails above the inner city and really enjoy sharing this with others: at any pace on any route. Getting out there into nature around the Mother city is always a pleasure.

Where you'll be

We will probably run on a trail above the city on the slopes of Signal Hill, Lion's Head or Table Mountain, all of which have beautiful views over the City Bowl, Table Bay and Atlantic Seaboard. The exact route chosen will depend on your running desires and abilities, plus the weather on the day.

A 5-star experience! Was good fun running with Luke. He is very patient - we ran at my pace and stopped a few times for pictures. He shared some very cool & interesting facts about CT and was happy to advise where I could run trails on my own. I would definitely recommend you to book and enjoy this experience with Luke!

Luke was a wonderful guide and took me up to the top of Lions Head, something I didn't think I would get to do. We lucked out and had no crowds, except for a wonderful set of twins celebrating their 50th birthday. So I even got to share in some cupcakes and champagne! As a lifelong resident of Cape Town, Luke also filled me in on all kinds of history and culture of South Africa. Oh, and he also organizes custom tours, so he is a wealth of knowledge on other places to explore in the Cape region.

Luke took my husband and I on a great trail around Lions Head. It was super easy to meet up at the location, and he was incredibly accommodating -- he set a great pace and was conversational throughout our trail run. He knows so much about the area and he clearly is well known and well-liked as anyone we went by on the trail knew Luke! I highly recommend this experience with Luke!!

I really enjoyed the Trailrun on Lions Head with Luke! He picked me up from my apartement and even when the weather conditions were not the greatest we were lucky and had a little bit sun and were almost alone on Lions Head which is quiet extraordinary. We had some really nice chats and I was impressed about his knowledge and his positive atitude. I can only recommend him and it was one of the best things I experienced during my stay in Cape Town. Thank you!

If you are a runner visiting Cape Town, from rank novice to competitive athlete, you would be wise to book Luke right away. Not only is he a wonderful and patient guide, but his knowledge of the area will be invaluable in your future runs in and around the city. I enjoyed my run with Luke so much I booked him a second time. In both I was taken on some of the most scenic and spectacular running roads and trails I've ever been (and learned an awful lot about the history of Cape Town.) Book him early as he can get busy--I promise you won't regret it.
