What you'll do
Come be in nature and work with nature. We will all meet in a beautiful location with immediate access to nature and all the materials we will need for the experience. I will prepare the fabrics, and we will start by going through the different dyes we will use, learning about their traditional use and how to work with them. We will then prepare our fabrics, as I will go over the different tieing and wrapping techniques. We will go over different ways to store and document your creations and we will organise a delicious meal with some of the materials used for dyeing, like avocados and pomegranates! I will also teach you about mordants, over-dyeing, caring for your garments and mending them. You will take home different samples of different fabrics, materials and colours.
I am the Founder of the Institute for Human Creativity and I work with my colleague Frida in this workshop. I have been trained as a designer and worked in the art wold most of my life. Frida is a textile artist & sustainable designer, and in her practice, she has focused on natural dyes for 4 years and works implementing different traditions, materials, cultures and techniques within this skill. We have curated the space we teach in to be as interactive and close to nature as possible, feeling at home, learning with nature and making the experience easy and exciting for you to
