What you'll do

Get ready to sweat! Mount Storm King is one of the most challenging, but rewarding day hikes in Olympic National Park. Our experience begins with a scenic 35-45 minute drive from Port Angeles to Lake Crescent, which will be our home base for the afternoon. From the lake, we will gain 2,000 feet elevation in just 2 miles as we hike to the summit of Mount Storm King. The switchbacks are steep and the hike is grueling, but once you see the final approach, adrenaline takes over. You will use three sets of ropes to assist with traction on an exposed cliffside as you hike to the summit. Upon arrival, you will forget about your burning leg muscles as you marvel at the sweeping views of Lake Crescent. Overall, the hike is 4 miles roundtrip and we allow time for a quick lunch and sightseeing before the hike.

Fantastic experience! Tommy was a very friendly and knowledgeable guide. He was also very attentive, paying alot of our attention to our needs as a group and making sure that everyone was comfortable at all times. Finally on the challenging parts of the hike, he offered alot of positive encouragement that made the entire experience enjoyable.

This experience was truly amazing! From beginning to end everything as described. We met Tommy at the ferry around 7:30 am to Bainbridge Island. We certainly lucked out with the weather and the Seattle city views because it was gorgeous. From there we drove to Olympic National Park. During the two hour drive, Tommy was very informative to the areas we were driving through and it made the drive fly by. Once we got the trail, it was truly an experience. As other reviews have advised there is only one way and that is UP. With every step that you take you are gaining elevation. It is possible to do it at your own pace and still keep up with the group. This trail is definitely a slow and steady wins the race kind of trail. Roundtrip the trail took us about 2:40. After we completed the trail, we sat by the lake, ate our lunch, and enjoyed the view of the lake and wildlife. This is certainly an experience to remember; would love to do it again.

This was the most amazing hike I have ever been on. It was challenging, but the burn on the legs and in your lungs is so worth the amazing views at the top. I would highly suggest wearing hiking shoes or another kind of aggressive tread shoes due to the loose soil at some points of the hike. I have to comment on how professional Tommy and his crew are. I had an incident on this hike, and they (Tommy and Jonah) responded with so much care and attention. That really impressed me and I will never forget the prompt response. I highly recommend this hike and any other hike that Tommy leads.

This was definitely the highlight of my trip to Seattle! The ferry ride and drive to the hike were breathtaking in themselves but it just keeps getting better as you get to the top of the mountain! It’s a challenging hike... come prepared with sturdy hiking shoes. Tommy did an excellent job leading us and I would for sure recommend this for anyone looking to explore this beautiful area and escape the city for a bit!

Overall, it was a great experience! It was very nice to get out Seattle and see Olympic National Park. Tommy’s description was very accurate. I would recommend this to anyone looking to do a challenging hike near Seattle. Terrain is very slippery/dusty so definitely wear shoes with great traction.
