What you'll do

Rise and shine early in the morning in order to see some early sunlight beams falling across the paddy fields (before it gets too hot and too lazy to go out), and meet at Sitinggil Muncul in Banyubiru. Once everyone is present we will head out through some picturesque ricefields, trekking up through the valley leading up to the back of Gunung Gajah (Elephant mountain). In the fields we will be able to see the farmers carrying on their daily tasks of working on the fields or collecting the famous Javanese palm sugar from the nearby trees. Slowly we will make our way through coffee plantations and then head up through the fresh pine tree forest towards the summit of the Gajah mountain. On the top we will enjoy stunning views across the area - looking up to Mt. Telomoyo and Mt. Merbabu, and then towards the lake Rawa Pening surrounded by the numerous little villages. We will enjoy a little break to take photos and to have a little refreshing snack before slowly making our way back down along the other side of the mountain, allowing for continuous views of the area. Upon arrival back at Sitinggil we shall enjoy delicious lunch, cooked according to local tradition from the locally picked and bought produce. We can enjoy the lunch while looking back at the fields and forests we just crossed, or you can enjoy the atmosphere of Sitinggil's old Javanese house - your choice! :)
Other things to note
This trekking experience is based in Central Java in tropical climate so expect to sweat and possibly get dirty (especially during the rainy season). Make sure you bring whatever would normally make you feel happy and comfortable when hiking :)

Hi, my name is Kristina! I live in Muncul in Central Java, Indonesia.
Most of my time I spend outdoors, running around the nearby mountains, through the forest, valleys and fields, enjoying the liberating feeling of freedom. Once I am back down, I enjoy roaming around the garden and planting some new goodies or making some fresh cheese.
Sometimes I sign up for local trail running races and I get to explore Indonesia beyond Java while chasing some of the most spectacular summits! Having said that, I am probably the biggest fan of all the amazing volcanoes of Java ;)

Where you'll be

We will start and finish at Sitinggil, which is a unique local restaurant preparing and serving dishes based on local recipes and expertise. Throughout the trekking we will pass traditional rice fields, coffee plantations and forest which all lead up to the summit of local Elephant mountain, where we will enjoy some spectacular views of the area (if lucky). It is a unique trekking experience exploring the nature as well as local culture.
