What you'll do

The Lantau tour lasts 7 hours with a start early at Tung Chung MTR station to avoid crowds. We will walk across to take a ride on the Ngong Ping Cable Car. You will be treated to the most wonderful views of the Country Park and the airport as we travel over the back of the island for 25 min. Our destination is the famous Big Buddha. Here we will learn about Buddhism, (if you like) climb the 268 steps to the Buddha, visit the Po Lin Monastery and the new hall of 10,000 Buddhas. Afterwards, we will take a 20-minute bus ride to Tai O, known as the Venice of Hong Kong. One of the very few remaining places in Hong Kong where we can still see traditional stilt houses over the water. It used to be a fairly big community but due to the decline of the fishing industry it, like Venice, is now primarily a tourist destination for locals. We will embark on a full exploration of Tai O including a stop via a boat ride (included) to the beautifully restored Old Police Station, now operating as a heritage hotel where we will enjoy lunch (included). Next, we will visit a temple from the late 1400’s and learn about the religion of Taoism. We will finish the tour back at Tung Chung MTR.
Other things to note
You need to be physically fit. We will be walking between 8 and 12km over the course of the day. We will be going at a slow pace, across flat land but you do need to be in reasonable health.

Come with me on a cultural and historical exploration around Lantau Island which often referred to as the ‘Lungs of Hong Kong’ because it is so green and underdeveloped. Take a tour with me and visit the awe inspiring Big Buddha and the wonderfully quaint stilt village of Tai O and I will teach you about the original local culture and the pirates of the past times! I am a Hong Kong tour guide with a special interest in local history and culture. I have been leading people from all nationalities on Lantau walks for several years.

Our host was Mel and he was great! Fantastic local knowledge and everything was very well organized and thought through - it would have been very difficult to organize such a day on my own. I highly recommend this experience.

My day tour with Ryan was wonderful. He provided so much information and cultural insight throughout the day. He was also very considerate to ensure I was doing well during a hot and humid day outside. I highly recommend him and the tour company

This tour was great & you really got to see everything listed! It was fantastic to have everything organised prior through this tour so no waiting in lines etc. We only had a small group of 3, and that was awesome! I would recommend this to anyone looking for some excitement and to see the vivid attractions outside of the typical Hong Kong busy city lights!

Our tour with Ryan was absolutely outstanding! Excellent background and history. Superbly designed coverage of Big Buddha and Lantau Island. Delightful break for lunch at a beautiful quaint old hotel on the island. Delightful sighting of rare pink dolphins. Big Buddha is not to be missed. Absolutely a wonderful day. Great balance of quiet and remoteness to balance bustle of Hong Kong. Highly recommend including this tour in your schedule.
