Artist for an Evening

Berlin, Germany

Hosted in English, German

What you'll do

Allow me to welcome you to the Malsalon, a beautiful studio close to the heart of Berlin where everyone is encouraged to be an artist.
I’ll be there to greet you and show you some of the wonderful art we have hanging in the studio. Next, one of our Berlin-based artists and tutors will take you through some of the techniques and materials you’ll be using today - then you are free to get stuck in!
You’ll choose from one of a number of Berlin motifs and then transfer the outline you’ve picked out onto canvas. Now for the paint! With your tutor offering expert guidance and feedback relating to technique, colour and stroke, you’ll be given an introduction to painting in a friendly and relaxed setting. And, at the end of the evening, you’ll have your own piece of Berlin art to take home!
Other things to note
You don’t need to bring anything, but bear in mind paint can be messy, so we don’t recommend you wear your best clothes. However, we’ll mainly be working with acrylics which wash off.

I’m a Berliner and had an international career as an architect before founding the Malsalon. I love bringing
people together and empowering them via art, and feel very lucky to be able to pursue my passion for art and in-the-moment creativity on a daily basis. No preparation or training is necessary to enjoy painting and express yourself!

Where you'll be

The Malsalon can be found in Prenzlauerberg, a historic and picturesque district a short distance from Berlin’s centre. Easily walkable and well-connected to public transport, the Malsalon is in a neighbourhood known as the Kollwitzkiez, after one of Berlin’s most famous artists Käthe Kollwitz.

We had a wonderful experience at the Malsalon. Johanna was really helpful during the whole process and did her best to support us. She gave good advice and in addition to that she’s just a genuinely nice person. Really happy with how this evening turned out. I can highly recommend this! 🌟

My boyfriend and I had a great time with a better-than-expected result. To begin our painting session, we were given three Berlin-themed-paintings to choose from. Then we made an outline of this image onto our canvas and we could start painting! This was great because there were nice examples and we knew exactly what to do. We didn't get to choose from other wonderful images which I would have liked better, but maybe that is something for another session. Our teacher (I forgot her name) was lovely; very helpful, skilled, friendly and encouraging. We both recommend this experience!

It was fantastic! Relaxing and fun evening, we got a template that helped us with the main lines so that we could fully focus on colouring the canvas with the acrylics. The painter who led the workshop was always walking around, giving us advice, answering our questions both in English and German. Absolutely recommend this workshop! And you will bring your lovely painting home.

The experience is nice, you get a canvas and you start to work on it. Time is not a big constrain and nice music is present. We expected a bit more tips and indications from the tutor, however having freedom to work in our way was fun.

It was so nice and nice. I am sorry to inform you later. I want to do it once again if I go back to Berlin later.

She was very, very kind. It provided all the tools I needed to draw a picture and gave me some snacks. Her studio was very comfortable and cozy to work with. It was even better to see her wonderful works. The guests who attended the class together were also very kind and the atmosphere was good throughout the activity. She helped us complete the picture with a friendly explanation, even though we were very beginners. This trip is highly recommended. Be sure to have a great experience. Thank you Johanna! :)
