What you'll do

Explore a beautiful part of Fairbanks by traditional means of travel- dogsled and snowshoe. This tour begins with a hot drink at our cozy off-grid cabin. You'll meet our team of big, friendly, Alaskan Huskies and learn all about them. We will cover trail safety, dog care, and how to ride the sleds. We will make sure you are dressed appropriately, we have lots of warm clothing to lend you. Help us harness the dogs and you'll take off for an exciting and scenic tour. You'll traverse frozen creeks, sunny bogs, and boreal forest on a trail that is full of surprises. We let you try both riding the runners and sitting in the sled. Once we get back from the trail we'll give the dogs a treat and head into the cabin for a warm where we'll teach you about snowshoeing from how to make them to how to use them. Then strap on the snowshoes for another hour of good exercise and exploration. You can stick to established trails or make your own in whatever direction beckons. This tour is private and we are happy to customize it to your desires. We have lots of time for photos and enjoying some solitude on the trail. Finish with a homemade lunch featuring Alaskan foods. Please note that this experience is designed for groups of at least 2 people, we are not able to accept solo travelers at this time.

We have been living and guiding in the Alaskan wilderness for over 20 combined years. We own and operate Boreal Journeys Alaska LLC, a dogsled ecotour company where our passion is making our guests feel comfortable and connected in the northern Alaskan forest that we call home. We are a small-scale, family-run business focused on providing authentic experiences for our guests. We use hand-crafted gear, well-loved Alaskan Husky sled dogs, & wild places to create unforgettable adventures. We are both wilderness first responders. We built our homestead from the ground up and love sharing it!

Where you'll be

Our off-grid cabin is located on nearly 100 acres of forest right along a creek just outside of Fairbanks. Its a true winter wonderland. We have forest, bog, lakes, and creek all at our disposal to explore. We put in our own trails and make them exciting and beautiful. The cabin is small and cozy, it is heated with a woodstove. We have no running water and use an outhouse. Its an authentic Alaskan experience!

A once in a lifetime experience, truly amazing. Hospitable, genuine, knowledgeable, and caring people that are eager to share their enthusiasm. The sledding was exhilarating and the snowshoeing was beautiful, both opening your eyes to a side of Alaska normally only seen on postcards.

Hands down this was the best part of our trip to Fairbanks. Jenna and David and the dogs gave us an experience we’ll never forget. They made sure we were warm, comfortable and safe at all times; fed us the tastiest meal we had on the whole trip; and were generous with themselves, sharing stories about their life in Alaska. Would highly recommend.

The dog sledding experience was fun and exciting, but was conducted in a manner that kept everyone safe and comfortable. It went beyond our expectations because of Dave and Jenna. We expected the dog sledding and snowshoeing to be fun, and it was, but getting to know Dave and Jenna and seeing their lifestyle added an entirely unexpected dimension to the trip. Jenna patiently taught us how to snowshoe, and Dave expertly guided the sled while still letting us be as involved in the experience as we chose. Interacting with the dogs, seeing Dave and Jenna's handling of the dogs, and seeing how excited the dogs were to pull the sled was the highlight of our trip to Alaska.
