What you'll do

We will try to communicate in Spanish throughout the tour.

First we will meet in a coffee shop to have a delicious Veracruzan coffee and eat something before starting our journey to the Archaeological Center.

We use to use public transportation to reach Zempoala. Now we will drive a Van to the Archaeological Center.

Being in the Archaeological Center we will be able to visit the museum, walk around the place and have some refreshments. We can also visit the souvenir shop and go to swim in a little river close to the Center.

At the end we return driving to The Port. We will finish our adventure eating at a restaurant close to the Boulevard Manuel Avila Camacho.
Other things to note
No matter what level of Spanish you have.

I am from Mexico City and I have lived in Veracruz for 10 years. I learned to organize tours and how to teach Spanish when I worked in a school for foreigners.
We will enjoy taking tours in the beautiful gardens and pyramids of the Archaeological Center of Zempoala. It is a very quiet place where we can talk and enjoy the scenery.
As a native Spanish speaker, I would like to share the culture and history of this magical place, as well as give you the confidence to speak and understand Spanish fluently. You will also learn how to use public transport in and out of the city.

Where you'll be

Zempoala was one of the most important cities of the Gulf Coast, capital of the Totonacs. It was a very important place to start the Spanish Conquest.
The Center is in very good condition and has very nice gardens. Usually the show of the bird men (Voladores de Papantla) is presented if the weather allows it.
There is a museum exhibiting a collection of archaeological pieces found on the site.
I will select places to eat according to your diet.

Guillermo is a wonderful teacher. He has that rare quality of while staying true to the facts, he can release your imagination, and while taking appropriate care, he brings out a sense of adventure. On the level of creating an immersive language experience, I felt he pitched it exactly right for an intermediate learner like myself. I was both challenged and encouraged, so I was speaking Spanish with a relative sense of ease and confidence. As a veteran of language learning, I trust that he would be equally skilled with both beginner and more advanced students. We took three buses to get to the ruins, which I find much more fun than being chauffeured around in a bus or taxi. When we got to the ruins, Guillermo had a masterful knowledge of what is both known and unknown about them. So we were able to have discussion that he kept grounded in the historical and anthropological record, while engaging in some fun speculative banter. I highly recommend this experience if you want to get more in touch with the everyday life of Veracruz, sharpen your Spanish, and learn about local indigenous cultures.

This experience is very interesting, but I think it is, in low season. We had the chance to enjoy the ruins by ourselves, but I think when it's crowdy, it's not as cool as it was today. Guillermo is very careful, nice, and he always do the best for his customers. In fact we don't feel as customers, we fell as friends. Great day

This was our first time trying out an experience from Airbnb and we could have not have had a better one to start with than spending the whole day with an amazing host exploring the magical ruins of Zempoala near Veracruz city. Guillermo's deep understanding and love of the historical sites we visited together was so infectious, we learned so much about a great Mesoamerican culture long gone. Along the way I rediscovered my love of learning Spanish with his thoughtful lessons. His communications before the experience were impeccable, he is such a niece, polite and friendly guide and so comfortable to be around with. Hours of great conversations later we cannot highly enough recommend this unique experience. Thank you for a great and inspirational day Guillermo!
