Learning to centre the clay on the wheel.
Throwing off the hump, creating three pots from one piece of clay.

I will finish the pots for you by turning the base, bisque firing, glazing and refiring to stoneware temperature.

You can visit the gallery which is right next door to the studio where there is a small English library.
Other things to note
Pottery needs to be fired and glazed which can take up to a month. You can make arrangements to have your work delivered if you are unable to pick it up.

I studied ceramics for my degree in 1981 and spent 20 years living in different countries such as France, Egypt, Morocco and Belgium. I am a qualified, experienced teacher and have set up a business with my husband Didier in our home in the heart of Gascony, South West France. We have a big studio with six wheels and lots of space for hand building, an electric, gas and Raku kiln and a small gallery which displays the work of 15 local artists.

Where you'll be

Our farm stands on a hillside in the south west of France with a full view of the pyrenees on a good day. The barn has been converted into a large studio space which has 6 potter’s wheels, an electric, gas and Raku kiln. We opened the gallery in 2016 which showcases the work of 15 local artists and potters.

Hilary est avenante. Elle partage sa passion avec un sourire communicatif. Je n'ai rien à dire de plus sinon que l'hôte aussi bien que l'activité était parfaite ! Ça vide l'esprit. Je recommande très vivement cette activité !

Thank you Hillary, my dad has been a potter for many years but hadn't thrown anything for quite a few years. I got him this experience as a present and Hillary was great, he had an opportunity to ask lots of questions about the set up too and found it very interesting.

An amazing experience in a beautiful part of the world. Hilary is a fantastic host with a wealth of knowledge and has a brilliant way of teaching. She’s very patient and reassures you that your clay work is a masterpiece, even if a little bit wobbly in places. I would thoroughly recommend you give this a go, you won’t be disappointed!

We are so grateful for our experience with Hilary! Hilary is an expert in her field and a wonderful teacher. Her kindness and patience with our family made our experience learning pottery so enjoyable and memorable. As a bonus, the children consider the time they had playing with their dogs after our pottery lesson as a highlight of our trip.
