What you'll do

Great cities often come up at the cost of smaller hamlets. New Delhi is certainly not an exception. In 1911, when the British decided to transfer their capital to Delhi from their de-facto base Calcutta, nearly 150 villages in Delhi, mostly inhabited by farmers, had to forsake their land holdings.

The design of this city and its principal buildings was entrusted to Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Barker, both being architects were well versed in the neoclassical tradition flowing from the European renaissance. The plan was derived from the best traditions of the European renaissance and was enlivened by a detailed design of plantation composed of carefully chosen varieties of indigenous trees and other vegetation. The buildings and their compounds, as well as the roads, were laid out according to the very generous standards befitting an imperial city.

This walk traces the history of Lutyens’ Delhi, and looks at how the architectural makeover affected the image of the city and changed the lives of its people forever.

I can also help you manage and customize many day tours in Delhi as per your needs.

I'm Shashank Gupta, based in Delhi as a heritage walk leader from last four years, also pursuing Master's in Medieval History from Jawaharlal Nehru University.

I belongs to a city called 'Khurja' which is 90 Kms far in the state of Uttar Pradesh, famous for it's traditionally made terracotta products, traditional houses and street food.

As a heritage enthusiast, I see Delhi as a mystery of thousand years history, roaming around kingship, power, citadel, tombs and people's past etc. but all of them have a reason behind, who knows from an old alley to a name of road what can amaze you more than anything in this city.

I really feel immense pleasure to unravel those mysteries through heritage walks and research in this field.

You're welcome to have an unforgettable historical day in the heart of Delhi!

Shashank is an expert in museums. The Craft Museum is way more than what its name implies. There are many priceless items inside this charming building and it's courtyard that makes it equal to many medium size museums in other affluent countries. It's a shame that not many people come to visit it. In addition to the museum, we went on to explore the market place and the famous tomb right in the city center. All in all, Shashank is a very knowledgeable and courteous guide. You'll get to see the authentic side of Delhi on this tour.
