Lisa and I are co-founders of a printmaking studio in Lowestoft. We create our own work here but it also allows us to provide a facility for local artists and anyone who has a curiosity about printing by hand. With a background in art teaching and architecture we aim to bring out the passion, skills and creativity in printmaking. Our printmaking studio seeks to facilitate the widest exploration of works on paper all with an emphasis on low tech, analogue and eco friendly techniques.

Where you'll be

The course takes place in our own purpose fitted out printmaking studio on the first floor of our Edwardian seaside home. The studio enjoys oblique views of the sea from its bay window overlooking the street. We have two presses, a wet area, paper cutting area and a large worktable suitable for up to four people. The studio walls are filled with examples of our students , members and our own prints.

I had never done Drypoint before but I left feeling confident that I would be able to do this by myself if only I had my own printing press! I thoroughly enjoyed this workshop and totally loved learning how to work and explore using this medium of creativity. Hugh and Lisa are, and were excellent at supporting all of us in the workshop. There were opportunities for exploring different ways of creating marks, tones and using different techniques to. I would highly recommend this workshop. You feel a great sense of achievement when you return home with your prints!

I loved it: whatever can be drawn with a line can be used, so, therefore, anyone can do it. The outcome is a surprise, because it is difficult (as a newcomer to the technique) to work out how much impact the quantity and the marks made from inking up are going to contribute to the 'drawing', or scribing stage of the print. Totally absorbing...

Interesting experience, an art technique we hadn’t come across before. Accessible for beginners with pleasing results.
