What you'll do

No binoculars? No problem! We've got you covered with 4 pairs of quality binoculars and a high-powered spotting scope to bring those birds up close!

We want to help beginners get out and appreciate the bird world. Don't be shy if you've never birded before - that's what we're here for! (All experience levels are welcome though.)

You'll meet us for a slow meander along Sonoma County's bucolic West County Regional Trail in Sebastopol. There, we'll look at, listen to, and identify a variety of songbirds, woodpeckers, raptors, and much more. Time allowing, we’ll walk 1 mile to a water treatment pond for a chance to see some duck species before birding our way back (a flat, paved 2-mile roundtrip). We’ll send you home with a paper checklist of the species we observed throughout our walk. And, if you're on eBird, we will share the day's checklist with you.

We guarantee you'll leave with an increased appreciation of the bird life that surrounds us!

If there are any specific birding skills you'd like to focus on improving (visual ID, birding by ear, etc.), let us know and we'll be happy to tailor the walk to your interests.

If you don’t see a time that fits your schedule, or if you're a group larger than 4, contact us and we’ll try to accommodate you!

PLEASE NOTE: There are no restrooms at this location.

Hi! We're Teresa & Miles Tuffli, avid birders from Guerneville in Sonoma County. We absolutely LOVE helping fellow nature-lovers and "bird-curious" folks get outside and learn about the bird world. We’ve led guided bird walks and given educational presentations for organizations like the Point Reyes Birding Festival, Sonoma Land Trust, Laguna Foundation, and local Audubon chapters.

While working desk jobs for many years, we yearned to be outdoors exploring our natural world every day. We're so grateful that sharing our love of birds has allowed us to make that transition. We have also become passionate about contributing to community environmental efforts, and now volunteer with a variety of local nature-based non-profits.

You can learn more about us at our website I'm Birding Right Now (imbirdingrightnow.com).

We had a wonderful afternoon with Teresa and Miles! Both of them are extremely personable, knowledgeable, and welcoming and their enthusiasm for bird life and nature in general is infectious. Teresa and Miles clearly love to share their birding interest with others and have great tips and tricks for spotting and identifying birds in ways you can remember. We went home with a much-upgraded appreciation and working knowledge of the birds we see and hear on a regular basis. The farm trail is a perfect spot for an intro to birding too, with a surprisingly variety of environments to see lots of birds living in and around trees, brush, fields, and ponds. Highlights of our spotting included a woodpecker organizing acorns in a tree "pantry," a brown creeper zipping up and down an oak tree like a little machine, a gorgeous wood duck, a Kingfisher fishing in a pond, and a sleeping barn owl high in a tree. My husband and I were both amazed that the 2 1/2 hours were over almost before we knew it. Highly recommended!

Book this tour! No one in our group of four (around age 30) had ever before gone birding, or knew much about it. Now we’re hooked. We ended up spotting over 30 species of birds, including a great blue heron and a barn owl! There were also goats and alpacas to see along the trail. Teresa and Miles were extremely knowledgeable and fun to spend a few hours with.

My husband and I were novice birders and found Teresa and Miles's knowledge and passion for birding to be infectious! Our group spotted 30+ species of birds, learned about apps that could help us build our knowledge, and picked up some birding lingo (like divers and dabblers, my faves). As a bonus, Teresa took gorgeous photos of a few of the birds we saw, plus portraits of us nerding out on birds, which she sent to us afterwards as souvenirs of the day. We also left with a marked up list of the birds we identified (very handy) and a page of recommendations for things to enjoy in the area (some of which we did). We're hooked on birding! I'd highly recommend this experience if you love nature and hanging out with two fun and knowledgeable locals.

Teresa and Miles were incredibly friendly and we'll prepared for our excursion. Our sons (9 and 11) had a lot of questions and they were more than happy to answer them all. :-). Saw over 20 species on a winter's day and a special barn owl. We hope to come back to see the baby birds in the spring and our new friends Teresa and Miles!

Absolutely spectacular knowledge of local birds. Wonderfully gracious and welcoming. We were lucky to see over 40 varieties of birds, with some very very special sittings. Miles set up his "super" monocular scope frequently. What a thrill to see the details on birds.
