What you'll do

In my opinion, one who travels requires a guide to explore the hidden places of a city, not your “top three” destinations on trip advisor. I believe it’s important to do that yourself. To explore the vastness of what the city of Mumbai is, in few days, even months or years, is an incredible task. I strive to connect you to the beat of the city, the pulse, if you will. We take public transport. You move through the city like a Mumbaikar.

I start the tour with exploring the biggest flower market of Mumbai. It’s scale, colours and fragrances are mind blowing! It’s a phenomenal spot for photography, to experience some local flavour, and hey, maybe even buy some flowers... by the kilo! ;)

Next we head to a fishermen’s village that dates back to 800 years. It’s tucked right in the middle of one of the world's largest metropolises, yet you’d never know it once you’re there. Fishermen/women were the original inhabitants of Mumbai, so if you’re interested in the history of this massive city and how it came to be, you’ll get to know all those little tidbits along the way.

After that, we transit to Dhobi Ghat. This is the worlds largest open-air laundromat! Over 100,000 pieces of clothing are hand-washed here in one day! The brilliance and diversity of the colours is something to behold!

Also, try and smile! A smile and a head-wag can take you to places you’d never dream in India :)
Other things to note
1. If you are interested in the tour but would like to do the same in Private Transportation, that can be arranged.
2. Flexibility in the pick-up or meeting point is possible. (subject to other guests)
3. Food tour can be combined with the tour itself.

My name is Arpan Kalothia. Like many of you who are reading this, I am a traveler. Although I have traveled India extensively with my family from a young age, I didn’t realize my calling to travel by profession until a few years ago. As a young man, family pressures directed me towards academia. As many of us from Indian cultural descent, pleasing my family and treating them with respect, is of the utmost importance to me. I obliged, completing my degree in finance, but somehow I felt unfulfilled. I am sure some of you can relate - I needed more.

Where you'll be

We will be precisely exploring the north western part of the Mumbai City.
1. Dadar Flower Market - It's a perfect place for shutterbugs to capture the colourful Mumbai.
2. Fishermen Village - Experience the 800 year old fishermen (Koli) village in the middle of the city which still has Christians and Hindus living in harmony.
3. Dhobi Ghat - Experience the biggest open air laundromat where clothes are still hand-washed.

Fabulous. I really enjoyed it as Arpan was very informative and lead a great tour full of local experiences. Felt a true sense of culture and how people make various wages and local market economies. I would highly recommend Arpan’s tour.

Arpan showed us a side of Mumbai that I would never have seen on my own. He's passionate and open about showing India through his own eyes. Even when bombarded with questions he still takes the time to answer and give attention to everyone. Thanks again!

This is a must for Mumbai visitors! We had loads of fun and discovered some very interesting places we probably would've never discovered if it wasn't for Arpan! We also made new friends & got a better taste of the amazing local culture - I think the best way to do that is to go to off-beat places and see the local people in their day to day lives. Our guide, Arpan, was a funny smart guy, which knew a lot about the city and would answer any questions we had, and was super friendly. Overall I give this tour 11/10, and would definitely recommend this once in a lifetime experience.

Arpan was a surprize for us - my daughter (16) and I. A smart guy, funny and very plesant, excelent story teller, an “expert” in the world he presented to us. The 5 hours together were dense and really valuable - we saw places that we couldn’t have seen, smell and taste by our selves. He also delivered very structured information packed in really nice stories. Even the places we visited were part of the hidden Mumbai, everything was super-safe an we enjoyed every minute from his tour. I recommend him for all the people interested in traveling and discovering rather than mainstream tourism.

Had a good time on this trip. It was fascinating to see another side of Mumbai - especially the dhobi ghat and the fishing village. Although a word of warning - it is the real side of Mumbai, so just be prepared that hygiene may not always be guaranteed in the places you visit and there were times we had to walk on the main road and there were cars driving very very close by. There aren’t any toilets in any of the places either (so you have to go to the rather disgusting public bathrooms). So just make sure you go to the bathroom before you start the tour! This trip does however give a good insight into how the other half of Mumbai lives. If you want to walk away from the main tourist areas and experience something off the beaten path, this trip is definitely worth trying.

We absolutely loved our tour with Arpan! We were hesitant because it seemed pricy for India but it was beyond worth it! He took us to many interestingly beautiful and off beat places in Mumbai that we might have liked on our own but it wouldn’t have been close to the experience we had with him! We felt like true locals as we took public transit most places and saw things most tourists don’t see. He is an extremely smart, likeable and knowledgeable guy! I highly recommend everyone to take his tours!!
