What you'll do

We will meet in LaVerkin at the crossroads to Zion and after a brief orientation drive to the top of the local mesas that give an amazing landscape view of Zion National Park. On the way you will learn about the history and the geology of the Zion area. On the mesa we will take a short hike/climb to find a perfect spot for you to watch the sun set and enjoy a chicken fajita dinner prepared just for you by your guide.

We will show you views that most visitors never see and they do require some hiking on uneven rocky terrain. The best views will require up to 1km of walking but we will choose what to show you based on your hiking skills. All participants should be capable of walking 400 meters and climbing a flight of stairs. This activity is dependent on the weather and we may adjust it in the case of heavy winds, rains, or lightning storms.

Our primary goal is to make sure you have a great time in Utah. We are more than happy to answer and give local advice. This experience is specifically designed for those new to the Zion area and deserts of the southwest. Put this experience first on your Zion agenda and we will help you get the most out of the rest of your trip.

Please contact us directly for dates for larger groups or special pricing for families with children.
Other things to note
This experience is weather contingent. We will do our best to give you the best possible view of the sunset setting. We may cancel in the event of heavy rains and lightning.

My brother Amos and I have benefited from a long family tradition of hiking, camping and exploring the deserts and mountains of Utah, Arizona and Nevada. (Our great-great-grandfather Edward Bunker first settled this area in the 1860's as a Mormon pioneer.) We are married Sarah and Michelle who both come from this area and are experts on the local geology and rocks.

Together we provide you a personalized and attentive experience. We will show you places that most other visitors miss and help you learn the skills to safely explore the deserts of the southwest.

Where you'll be

Beat the heat by joining us at higher elevations to enjoy views of the flat-top mesas and views of Zion that most visitors never get to see. As part of a small group (2 - 8 people) you will get a personal introduction to the area. A perfect way to start your trip.

First of all, I’d like everyone to know that Amos and Sarah went above and beyond! Our rental car broke on the way out to their location and we thought we’d have to forfeit our trip. Amos went out of his way to pick us up and get us back. We certainly didn’t expect it to happen but it did! Conversation was great and informative! Vistas were out of this world spectacular. Don’t hesitate, book it. I’m 68 and my husband is 65 and the hike was never once too strenuous or steep for us. Would love to go back and go with them again some bday. Amos and Sarah are 2 very special people!

AMAZING experience. Absolutely stunning views. The dinner was delicious. Amos really knew how to cook mighty fine! Everyone was super friendly and easy to talk with. I met my one of my stepbrothers for the first time so was more focused on getting to know him than with talking to the host and his family, but we still were able to chat a bit and they were just so fun to be around! They also had a TON of knowledge. Definitely a special and unique experience you can’t get any where else.

I was the only one on the tour, so we had some latitude when it came to location, duration, etc. Amos had suggestions, but let me make choices based on what I wanted to see and experience the most. He makes great fajitas in a less-than-ideal environment.

When I first saw this activity, I thought “Wow! What a great experience this would be”. It was. From the spectacular view of Zion that few ever see, dining on top of a mesa while the sun goes down (while the mountains absolutely glow...what a photo opportunity!), and having a personal guide pointing out areas of interest that the casual visitor would miss...It was amazing. If you visit Zion, we highly recommend this activity. You will remember it for years to come. Thank you Nathan and Amos! Great job, and great food, too!
