What you'll do

First you'll meet Tico my Moluccan Cockatoo who will explain how to make a beautiful glass bowl out of tempered safety glass. Then I will explain it CORRECTLY. We will go to my studio and learn to safely break a discarded sheet of tempered glass. Then each student will take a form that pleases them and prepare it to accept the glass that will line its inside. Each student with their own bucket of glass will learn how to puzzle little pieces of glass into their bowl. They can make as many bowls or projects as they can within the allotted time frame. We will load our unfinished wares into the kiln where the pieces of glass will slump & fuse to each other, creating a form that mimics the container that holds it. Done alone, this can be a very meditative experience, but done in a group it promotes camaraderie and kinship. Friendships are formed. Ideas are hatched. Munchies are provided. Participants are asked to return 24 to 48 hours later to pick up their fired pieces.
Other things to note
You will have to be visiting Hudson for at least 2 days after the class to be able to pick up your fired wares.

Meet your host, Laura Ann

Host on Airbnb since 2014
  • Identity verified
I am an artist and my partner is an artist and dealer. He purchased this old schoolhouse in 1994 to be an exhibition and live/work space for artists. I have been working with tempered glass since 2001 as a way to make use of all the sparkling glass and millions of showers doors and bus stop glass partitions that fill our dumps and landfills.
