About your host

We are a Mennonite family who own and operate Olde Lane Orchard, currently about 23 acres of apple, peach, pear, and plum trees. I have spent January through March of the past 17 years with one or more of my 5 sons crawling through trees, pruning out dead, diseased, and unnecessary wood. The previous owner of the original plot taught me much of what I know about pruning, enhanced by Purdue…

What we’ll do

After a brief tour and meeting family members and the miniature horse and the dogs, we'll head to the orchard about a mile up the road. I'll outfit you with pruners, then give you a quick tutorial on pruning an apple or peach tree. I'll continue to give you pointers as we prune together. If there is interest, grape vines or blueberries could be a focal point. At the end of our day, we will…

What I’ll provide

We'll have a sit down meal in our dining room or on the back deck. Please notify us ahead of special dietary needs.
Guests are welcome to bring their own water containers.
Small and large pruners will be provided.

What to bring

If you already have a pair of pruners you are comfortable with, bring them.

Where you'll be

The most probable spot for pruning trees is a 10 acre plot tucked between fields and woods off of State Rt. 231. This pleasant location contains about 200 peach trees and about 300 apple trees, some pears and plums, and an isolated pond. About 200 blueberry bushes and several grape vines are near the house.
