What you'll do

We collect you from your hotel / accommodation in Cape Town and make our way to Khayalitsha, Cape Town's largest township. Bikes are offloaded and prepared while we take you on a quick tour of the VeloKhaya Lifestyle Academy. This success story is an inspiring community-based project where kids are taken off the street, encouraged to be active through cycling whilst also educated at the facility. A gym, library and computer training room are all fully utilised on the premises.

Our guides are community leaders and have in-depth knowledge of the project, people & area. The successes and challenges are conveyed to guests through their unique and captivating storytelling technique.

We’re ready to hop on our bikes and commence our cycle to Lookout Hill with panoramic views taking in False Bay, Table Mountain & its surroundings. We then visit an authentic informal settlement comprised of tin shack dwellings, meeting some of the families in the community.

It’s lunch, where we taste some local cuisine and then head on back to Cape Town. We depart, full of new knowledge and a real appreciation for the strong sense of community, discovered on this unforgettable township experience.
Other things to note
This is a fully guided tour and safety is our number one priority. The tour has been carefully researched and designed and there have been no incidents in over 10 years of running this tour

Passion for tourism and making a positive impact in South Africa are what excite me each day.

As General Manager for one of Cape Town's leading tour operators, I was fortunate to visit some amazing places. The most satisfying of all was being a guest on an uplifting township tour experience with two of the most authentic & passionate tour guides and now your Airbnb co-hosts. Their love of people, passion for the community and storytelling ability makes this experience stand out way above any other township tour. This cultural curve and cycle tour has been successfully run for over 10 years

This is a relatively new cape Town experience. Made even more personal and apologies Matt I forget the name of your fellow guide with great local knowledge of the township and surroundings area. Nonetheless a great experience for one or tour groups. The experience can be personalised. At the very least you will be treated to the sights a healthy dose of bike riding and tastes of the the area. I wish Matt every success with this new experience and recommend to anyone who is looking for a unique township tour.
