Taste The Essentials of Hungarian Wine

Budapest, Hungary

What you'll do

Join our wine tasting for a crash course on Hungary’s increasingly fabulous wines! This sommelier-led two-hour evening tasting is held in our own wine tasting room and independent wine shop (The Tasting Table Budapest), centrally located in the Palace District. It features a selection of 8 great Hungarian wines, generous food pairings, and plenty of knowledge straight from the sommelier!

Hungary’s emerging wine regions are being increasingly recognized internationally, but you still won’t find many of the most interesting wines outside of the borders! Hungary has a wine culture with a long history and deep traditions, but today’s young winemakers are also building state-of-the-art wineries and experimenting with new styles. This tasting will give you a good overview of Hungarian wine—including the history, the major regions, the important varietals, unique characteristics and styles, and promising trends. By the end of the tasting you’ll have a good understanding of Hungary’s place in the world of wine (and plenty of good wine - and food - in your belly). The final wine is a Tokaj aszú wine, one of the world’s greatest sweet wines (and an essential part of Hungary’s wine story).
Other things to note
The tasting will begin promptly, so please be sure to arrive a few minutes early. If you will be late please call us at +36-30-720-8197!

We are Tamás, Christian, Sebastian, and Lilla, a group of sommeliers at The Tasting Table Budapest! We are passionate about Hungarian wine, and about spreading our love of this wine to wine-lovers who are new to it. We organize fun and educational wine tastings every day at The Tasting Table. We love introducing others to the unique Hungarian wines, mostly produced in small quantities, which we have discovered. We are also an independent wine shop, and we stock more than 200 types of Hungarian wine, including the largest selection of Tokaji aszú in Budapest!

This was such a fun night! You learn so much about the region and the history, but the hosts also give you plenty of time to chat and get to know the group you're seated with. Wines and food were delicious - wish I could do this one again. :)

Dégustation de vins très agréable, notre sommelier a su nous captiver tout au long de la soirée avec ses explications. Nous étions encore plus joyeux en repartant qu'en arrivant 😊

We went on the 6.30pm wine tasting and tried 8 different Hungarian wines with some excellent paired cheeses and cured meats. Tamás was an amazing host who made us feel welcome and was very knowledgable about Hungarian wine. The wine tasting is located in a beautiful wine cellar and felt very private. I am a wine tasting novice, but several of the guests were more experience, nonetheless I felt the tasting catered to all levels.

The host was very kind, and bustling with an enormous amount of information about the different wines we got to taste. Moreover he was open to any questions that we had. He had a good experience with viticulture having lived in the different wine districts of Napa Valley the US and New South Wales in Australia. It was nice to compare different types of wine stored in different conditions, but made with the same grape. The tokaj dessert wine that we got to taste in the end, had a great and delicious food paring. I can definitely recommend others to experience this event!

Absolutely amazing! Me and my friend attended and we have never been to a wine tasting before so we didn’t know what to expect. It was a small group of six attending so we were all able to chat and share thoughts. Wine and food were lovely!! Would definitely recommend going along if you get the chance.
