Woodworking: Redwood Six Pack Caddy

Experience hosted by Christopher

3 hours
Includes food, drinks, equipment
Up to 10 people
Hosted in English

What you'll do

You'll meet us in the heart of downtown San Francisco at our rustic wood shop, one of the last industrial maker spaces in the city. We'll pick out some redwood and get to work. We'll learn how to safely use a variety of power tools, then break out the elbow grease to hand-sand the six pack caddies and do some custom-engraving. A cold, locally-brewed Anchor Steam beer is the perfect partner for putting on the final touches. You'll leave with a lovingly-crafted wood caddy that will give you permanent bragging rights — and will always remind you of your trip to Fog City. Experience for yourself what makes this place special: creative people in creative spaces adding small pieces of beauty to the world.

I started crafting from wood as a kid and have been embedded in San Francisco's creative maker community for more than 15 years. Nine years ago I founded Wood Thumb, a wood shop where we've designed and sold hundreds of thousands of high-quality wood products across the globe. Our clients have included big-name retailers such as Anthropologie, Williams Sonoma and Urban Outfitters. But my true passion is not production — it's sharing the gift of woodworking with people who don't have the knowledge, tools or belief in themselves to build something with their hands.

Ten of us went to the woodworking shop. Chris gave an introduction to the area, the shop, his business, and finally to what we would do during our time there. He was incredibly attentive, walked us through each step, checked in on each person's progress, and made sure we were handling the power tools safely. He's clearly passionate about what he does, and had a great energy and enthusiasm that made it an incredibly enjoyable experience. Highly recommended!
