What you'll do

See the sights, enjoy and relax while kayaking through Xochimilco’s nature-upholstered canals.
Each paddle stroke takes you to a new place where you decide the pace and route to follow. Endemic Flora and Fauna are witnesses of a fascinating journey that delights the senses. It is a unique and exclusive experience for lovers of knowledge and adventure in a natural environment..
Also, Kayaking is an activity highly recommended for the little ones as it induces them to live with nature and to work as a team in a very friendly environment.
We will navigate the canals and visit Xochimilco’s main chinampas, such as Isla de las Muñecas (Doll´s Island), Laguna de Tlilac (Tlilac Lagoon), and we will also see Ajolotes or Axolotl, an endemic endangered salamander that was considered as a deity by the Aztecs due to its cellular regeneration capacity and anticancer property. Additionally throughout the tour we will observe local and migratory birds that relax the soul.
*In each chinampa where we get off the kayak, there are restrooms :)
Other things to note

I founded KAYAK 33 because I want to share the joy to discover wonderfull and natural environments where you can only access by water. I have been doing kayak for 12 years and organizing expeditions with friends around the world, like crossing The Panama Canal from the Pacific to the Atlantic, traveling by sea from Loreto, to la Paz Baja California during a whole week, navigating six days to reach The Explorers Glacier in Chilean Patagonia and many others. I love doing kayak because it allow me to appreciate my natural environment with my own hands and connect with myself and other people.

This is a once in a lifetime experience. Xochimilco is a very special place and not surprisingly, a UNESCO world heritage site. The entire area is a very unique place in Mexico City's very old history but also has incredible biodiversity that is alive all around you. While many people experience Xochimilco on the TRAJINERAS (colored boats on the river), doing this by kayak is a whole other dimension of experience. You're close to the water and quite engaged in the natural beauty that has made this a place so special. Basic fitness is just fine and would be easy for kids too. Adalberto is clearly a seasoned kayaker, very knowledgeable and totally charming. We started with some basic safety tips and an overview of the route and then set off. We paddled gently for about four hours, stopping at the famous Island of dolls - NOT TO BE MISSED - that included a tour and brief history. We also stopped and shared stories with a local farmer and a young conservationist. Of course the trip would not have been quite the same without the pulque - a local drink made from fermented cactus. The whole trip was spectacular and very relaxing. I cannot say enough about this experience. If you're going to Xochimilco - doing it by kayak with Adalberto is a must! I will absolutely return.

This was an absolutely incredible experience! I got my own kayak and spent the day kayaking all around the canals. We stopped at many different islands, saw ajolotes and learned about that particular species, went to Islas Del Muñecas, and also went to an island farm and talked to a local farmer about his land and his farming process. We also picked up trash in the canals throughout our trip, which was really considerate of our host to suggest. It makes it so, as a tourist there, you feel you are respecting the land and earth you are visiting. As well, it becomes a fun game to play while on a kayak. The host grew up in Mexico City and has traveled all over Mexico. He has an abundance of knowledge about Mexico, Mexico City and Xochimilco. Prior to our experience he reached out with tips for stay and travel. He also liked to get to know me and by the end of the day we genuinely made a friendship! We took are time and we’re not rushed and ended up stopping at a Beer festival that was happening in the area. We kayaked to the festival. What a way to arrive to a party! Had food, danced, and made on our way back into the canals. I could not have had this experience anywhere else and would change nothing about it, it will be one of my most memorable times in Mexico City.
