What you'll do

In the Historic Centre I will tell you how Sintra's Castle, the hills, the valleys and the Royal Palace, were in a distant past.

On our way to the Castle, we will find Sintra legends and tales that try to explain the origin of some medieval names, and how they have come to be what they are today. You will learn more about them as well as the landscape all around you.

From the top, from one of the watchpoints of the Kingdom, we will see - through facts and words based in the study of old portuguese medieval chronicles -, well-known knights of Portuguese History in the fields around the Mountains.

But also monks living in a dishonest manner, barbers forced to take up arms, and neighbors with cunning plans; walking under the carpet made of treetops of Sintra - and still feeling the snorting of the horses - you will know the legends and medieval stories of Sintra from a local Historian perspective.

In some parts of the walk, we will stop more often to give you the opportunity to rest and enjoy the landscape, with a view of some important monuments in the distance (the Castle, Pena Palace, Quinta da Regaleira, and others).

Our 7 kilometer walk will end right back where it started.
Other things to note
The effort implied in the walk is equivalent to a whole afternoon strolling in a touristic place. No smoking. Not recommended for people with limited mobility, cardiac conditions, or pregnant women.

Meet your host, Miguel

Host on Airbnb since 2019
My name is Miguel Boim, also known as "O Caminheiro de Sintra (The Sintra Wanderer)", and I am responsible for the notorious Sintra Mountains thematic night walks. I'm glad to be recognized as the foremost local researcher on Sintra's History. I'm also an author, known in Portugal as one of the most enthralling storytellers on the nation's History. As of 2018, I've told Sintra's stories to over 12.000 people. "Sintra Lendária (Legendary Sintra)" is my literary flagship, already in its 2nd edition.

    Where you'll be

As we will begin - and end - in Sintra's Historical Centre, you will be able to see Sintra's National Palace (from the outside) as well as some other points of interest in the Village.

We will then slowly climb to Sintra's Castle under the treetops, which you will visit (I will provide your tickets).

From there you will be able to see - in the distance - Pena Palace, the National Palace, Quinta da Regaleira, the Atlantic Ocean, and others.
