What you'll do

Hear about the history and culture that makes Berkeley one of the most famous cities in the world. We'll stroll safely through campus and the surrounding areas. This activity is 100% outdoors, and attendance is limited so it's easy for everyone to keep at a safe distance from one another. We'll meet just outside the Paris Baguette Cafe at 2150 Shattuck Avenue just next to the downtown Berkeley BART station. We'll learn about Berkeley's downtown area, then cross through UC Berkeley's campus alongside tree-lined Strawberry Creek. We'll pass by the Free Speech Cafe and talk about Berkeley's protests. Finally, we'll walk the historic route from Sproul Plaza to People's Park. Afterward you can shop for one-of-a-kind jewelry and t-shirts on Telegraph Avenue. A number of restaurants are open for pick up, so you can get everything you need for a picnic lunch.

Other things to note:

Please wear comfortable walking shoes. I also recommend sunscreen, a camera, and cash for refreshments and street artists. There are lots of great options for lunch and activities after the tour.

Hi! I'm Pam and I've lived in Berkeley for 36 years. My guidebook to Berkeley will be in bookstores next spring. I have a Bachelor's in Political Economy from UC Berkeley, and I'm receiving a Master's in California and Local History. I've worked on the UC Berkeley campus for 22 years. Currently I'm career counselor, and my past jobs were in admissions, student life, and international advising. I love discussions about politics, culture, economics, alternative lifestyles, and international issues. I'm excited to meet you and introduce you to one of the most exciting cities in the world!

Pamela is very attentive and caring. I have a bad back and customize my experience with multiple resting points. She shared her extensive knowledge of Bwrkeley and the University. When my back is better I'll take the tour again.

Pamela’s storytelling is impeccable. Loved how she connected far distant history of Berkeley to the very recent social cultural events, architectural style and murals. It helped me understand why Berkeley has been an epicenter of important social movements. She also helped us understand the geological tapestry of the sites we visited. Super informative tour. Would recommend this to all curious souls :)
