Flamenco: Lesson, Tapas & Show!

Madrid, Spain

Experience hosted by Cecilia, Andrea, Leila & Daniela

4.5 hours
Includes food, drinks, tickets
Up to 10 people
Hosted in English, Spanish, French

What you'll do

Our meeting point is Basilica de San Isidro, the main church for the madrileños. I want you to get to understand the importance of religion in the flamenco.
Afterwards, we will explore the area of the Rastro market, in the heart of La Latina, where the Roma community of Madrid is really active.

We will visit a guitar maker, a family owned business with a collection of guitars that date back to the 17th C. - We have the chance to see their workshop and understand better the hard work of this artisan.

From there, it's time to dance! We will go to an official Flamenco school, where professionals do their training. I am a student myself (you never finish learning) therefore we have special permission!

After one hour lesson, it's time for some tapas! I choose a famous historical tavern famous for its "gambas al ajillo" or garlic prawns. The perfect snack with their homemade wine.

Then, a great show is waiting for us! You will have the chance to see amazing artists in a cozy venue I careful choose. -After the lesson, you will really appreciated the effort they put in every movement!

This experience will cover every part of what Flamenco is about!

We love art & music, during our tours, our guests always asked us about Flamenco so one of us, Daniela ((https://www.airbnb.es/users/show/209447548), decided to create an itinerary about it.

An itinerary that could show everything about Flamenco in Madrid: local artists, a lesson in an official school, tapas in a heritage taverns and a show to start the night!

Daniela is a flamenco student and she has been studying the history of the Roma community for long time, so during the tour, expect lots of details about this community in charge of the Flamenco music in Spain.

Daniela was amazing. I did this with my boyfriend and was worried that he wouldn’t enjoy the dancing aspect but he LOVED it. The challenge of learning the steps was exciting to him after learning the history. He appreciated the show even more after he knew what went into the steps. As a former dancer I knew I would enjoy this experience but I was absolutely blown away by how amazing it was. 10/10 would recommend to everyone!

I can't recommend this experience highly enough. Daniela was friendly and welcoming from the moment we met and is a native english speaker, so communication was easy. My wife and I connected well with her very early in our evening, and we were fortunate to have another friendly couple join us. Daniela gave us a walking tour of Barrio La Latina, Barrio Lavapies, and Barrio de leteras. We saw one of Pablo Picasso's old homes, talked about Hemingway's times in Madrid, and of course discussed the history and evolution of Flamenco. The dance lesson with Juan was amazing and very fun (especially for an unskilled dancer like myself!). Daniela and Juan were patient and you could see how much they wanted to share their love for the art of Flamenco. After the lesson, we stopped in at a guitar shop to learn how flamenco guitars are made and then we had some amazing garlic prawns at a nearby tapas bar. The conversation between the five of us was fantastic. The tour ended up at a nearby Flamenco show and we were all blown away by the dancers, singers, and guitarists. I think i would have liked the show before the tour, but after our lesson and immersion in Flamenco culture, we all appreciated it even more. After the tour concluded, Daniela dropped us off at her favorite cocktail bar. She bid adieu for the evening, but my wife and I stayed with our new friends and drank well into the evening. What an absolutely amazing time we had. It is now the next morning as I write this, and i'm listening to Flamenco on Spotify. that should say it all...

This was an absolute treat! Start to finish, the entire experience was seamless. Seeing a flamenco performance was so much more meaningful after taking an introductory dance class and learning about the history of flamenco. Daniela is a lovely guide, and her passion for both flamenco and Spanish history is apparent. I would highly, highly recommend this experience!

We took our tour with Daniela and it was so much fun. She was very knowledgeable about the history of Flamenco and was very passionate about sharing it with us which made our experience that much more memorable. She was able to answer all of our questions regarding Flamenco and some general ones we had about Madrid. The best part of the experience was hands down the dance class. We were laughing the entire time. The steps were a little difficult but Daniela and Juan, the Flamenco teacher, were patient with us, slowing down the steps and going over it so we could really get the moves. Juan was amazing and made the class really fun and inviting. He wanted to show us more steps but we had to go to the next part of the experience. We would 100% recommend taking this tour. It provides great insight into the history of Flamenco and provides a hands on experience with it through the dance class and flamenco show.

Daniela was so much fun and has a great passion for sharing flamenco dance. She also shared history about the city as we walk along, I learned so much! Daniela also made us feel very welcome - we became quick friends! We took an incredible dance class with an world renowned flamenco teacher who was very patient and kind to us as beginners. Then we visited cool shops to learn even more about the culture of flamenco. The tapas were delicious and the show we saw was life changing. I have never seen such incredible dancing. I really felt like this experience was an authentic way to do something typically very touristy. It was so much fun!
