What you'll do

Hike the untouched nature with a local

I will pick you up at BUS STOP NUMBER 8, next to the big Church, Hallgrímskirkja, downtown Reykjavík.
We drive to Hvalfjörður Fjord, where the waterfall is situated. There we hike for about 3 hours. On the way we need to cross a river. The river has a tree trunk over it, and we cross it. The hike from there to the viewpoint is sometimes very steep. The view from the top is amazing and rewarding. Glymur, the waterfall, falls 198 meters and used to be the highest waterfall in Iceland. Due to warming, a new and higher waterfall has appeared. Remember good shoes, proper clothes and your camera!
A challenging hike with some high cliffs. Not suited for people afraid of heights!

I am born and raised in Iceland. Living next door to nature it became clear very early that I would become a geologist. There is no better place than peaceful nature. Birdsong in the summer is a plus. I love nature, hiking the wild and Iceland is a paradise for both. I want to take you on a journey to one of the highest waterfalls in Iceland, Glymur. Adventure and destress with me in tranquility, in nature, next door to Reykjavík. A mindful hike close to the capital.
My cohost is Stone, who is a landscape photographer and an adventurer. He has biked most trails that exist in Iceland and probably knows Iceland better than most people.

We had an amazing experience on this hike! First full day in Iceland and it could not have gone better. Helga is an awesome host, answered all of our questions and made us feel welcome and capable of completing the hike. Fully recommend this experience and I would do this again!

The wonderful Helga hiked with us to the most beautiful waterfall I've ever seen. The hike is steep at parts and there is a river to cross. Cross it barefoot, its exhilarating! 10/10 I highly recommend this experience.

We were unable to go on our hike due to weather and Helga offered us a refund or to go hiking through a lava cave. Our group did the lava cave and Helga went out of her way to show us around and introduce us to treasures in Iceland.

Weather made it unsafe to hike, but Helga offered alternative plans which I really appreciated. She is a lovely, warm person with a profound knowledge base of Iceland. She was wonderful to spend time with and I would recommend this or any other experiences she offers.

We had really bad weather and couldn't hike. So Helga offered us an alternative which was really nice. It was a great tour with Helga as a really friendly and welcoming guide. Would recommend it!

This was a terrific walk through an underground lava tunnel, which Helga readily offered us to go on instead of the planned waterfall hike when the weather forecast turned out to be too ominous to be safe for trips on or near the water. Thank you again and again, Helga! I loved it, and the chance to listen to the great things you shared with us on all kinds of unexpected topical tangents we found ourselves pursuing. It was really marvelous, too, to spend time with different enthusiasts from different countries in such an impromptu and small-group setting. I'd love to go on more trips with you! I wonder if, given how predictable it is for the weather in Iceland to be unpredictable and to interfere with nature hike plans, it might not make sense to have alternative plans in mind for the full duration of the originally planned hike? Whatever you decide, I loved the outing we went on and look forward to a chance to meet up with you again and again! Let's stay in touch!
