What you'll do

Isa’s Authentic Mexican Cooking School is the first culinary school teaching cooking classes in down town Playa del Carmen. The school is dedicated to the art of classic traditional Mexican cuisine and is located in a home kitchen close to the local market. Class will begin with a brief introduction from Chef Isa and overview of the various Mexican dishes that guests will be preparing for the day in a hands-on (some demonstration) style multi-course cooking class.

Following the introduction, Chef Isa will take you to the local market, just a few blocks away from the home-kitchen. Here in the market you will learn about the various ingredients and purchase some of the fresh items for the class. Once back in the home-kitchen, students will prepare a variety of dishes and learn about Mexican cooking techniques, using tools of the Mexican kitchen: molcajetes, tortilla press, cazuela, molinillo and more!

In class students will make Mexican aqua frescas, classic pico de gallo, nopal (cactus) salad, guacamole & a choice of a main dish: chicken/ pork pibil, tikin xic fish, tostadas w/ chicken tinga, fish ceviche, pork or fish pastor tacos & many more options to choose from!

I am the co-founder of Isa's Mexican Cooking School. I left the corporate world to start a culinary tourism business of my own, Cozumel Chef. Finding success with my own business I decided to join teams with Chef Isa to start a cooking school in the heart of downtown Playa del Carmen. Isa is a professionally trained chef who has worked many years in restaurants and co-owned one with her husband. Her passion for food has led her to teach and share her knowledge of Mexican food. We hope as a team that we can provide you with a unique culinary & cultural experience of Mexico! Buen provecho!

This class was amazing! Very knowledgeable chef and being able to buy the ingredients fresh was a treat. Baja fish tacos recipe was easy to follow and definitely would make them again! Recommend this class 100%!

Chef Isa was great! While at the local market, she took the time to explain to us how to pick out certain fruits and vegetables. The class was informative, and I really enjoyed the experience. This truly is a hands-on experience. The food was delicious.
