What you'll do

☝ Winner of the best "Insider Access" experience in Prague in 2019 ☝

You will first get familiar with all our birds, and the way our breeding station operates to save various endangered species. Then, you will participate in feeding the birds of prey, including our bald eagle Helen, vulture Omar, pair of Harris hawks and a few others. They will fly just above your heads, and they will land (should you dare to try it!) on your arm protected by a special glove. We will finish off by showcasing the training of the fastest bird of prey on the planet, our falcon Gulliver. This is a hands-on experience, quite literally!
Other things to note
This is and all-weather event. Even though this is mainly outdoor activity, there is a garden house providing cover from an incidental rain from which you can still fully participate in the whole event. We also have umbrellas and blankets for everybody.

We are a family of animal lovers specialized in falconry, ecology, breeding & animal rescue. Petr and Jana, apart from being married for almost four decades, run a sanctuary for birds and small mammals called Penthea, and Eliska, being (quite literally) Penthea's daughter, helps them connect with nature lovers from all around the globe.

As a rescue and breeding center, we look after some 120 animals: A couple dozen owls, hawks, eagles, vultures, falcons, parrots, a few small mammals, and even three fluffy dogs. Petr has been mastering the art of falconry for more than 40 years. As such, he belongs to the most renowned falconers in a country with an old falconry tradition, which has, as a matter of fact, been recognized as a living human heritage by UNESCO.

About the organisation: Penthea

Penthea is an officially incorporated non-profit organization based in Prague, Czech Republic. The family-run institution has been around for more than 2 decades providing shelter for handicapped animals, lecturing on topics of ornithology and ecology, training birds of prey born in captivity for survival in nature, and more.

This is a social impact experience where 100% of what you pay for this experience goes to Penthea.

Where you'll be

We will meet at the meeting point in the city center. We will then drive for about 20 minutes to a village called Cholupice, where our rescue and breeding station is located. After the 2-hour long program is finished, we will drive you safely back to the original meeting point.

Absolutely worth it! The birds are magnificent, Eliška and her parents are kind, welcoming and truly good at what they do. The best part was the little gift we got to take home with us, it was so thoughtful. I can’t wait to bring my friends so they can experience this too.

Firstly, FYI Petr and Jane took extra covid precautions — We were sprayed with sanitizer, wore disposal gloves under the shared big glove used for the birds, and wore masks. Now I will say.. WOW! What a treat! This was an experience I never thought I would have in my lifetime. We were able to get close to so many incredible birds of prey and even feed a few majestic birds. Petr was knowledgeable, experienced, and funny too! He and his wife were hospitable and caring. And their daughter was an excellent communicator when organizing the experience. Thank you so much for such an amazing experience!

The family is extremely knowledgeable and experienced in both their craft and sharing it with others, and I felt encouraged to participate and enjoy everything to the fullest! They even offered some amazing refreshments and were so friendly :) I recommend to anyone curious about falconry or simply want a different kind of experience while in Prague. I left feeling like I knew the culture much better than a walking tour could provide, for example.

Very unique experience. Seeing and handling the hawks, owls, and eagles was a once in lifetime opportunity. I learned a lot about these birds and the training that goes on at the facility.
