What you'll do
During this day's tour we will start by traveling about 55 km (1 hour) between Aveiro and Albergaria da Serra in the middle of Serra da Freita:
While we are full of energy, we will start by making a circular walk for 4-5 hours (about 10 km), going through imposing waterfalls, crossing shales and granites, feeling "life" of the Earth through the bent rocks and cut by veins quartz, see rare nodules, see ancestral practices and traces of ancient peoples, visit typical villages and how geology shapes each one.
Around lunchtime, I suggest having a picnic in the mountains. I think it is the best way to make the most of our time, more economical and the best way to continue enjoying nature.
With the strength restored and with a calmer stomach, we will drive to some of the best panoramic views of Serra da Freita, interspersed with small forays on foot. At the end of the afternoon, we return to Aveiro.
Other observations
The day and time of the tour can be adjusted taking into account the traveler's availability. Departure and arrival from Aveiro, however, there may be some adjustments at the guest's request.

I have been a geologist for over 15 years, working in different research groups, public institutes and in the oil & gas industry. I recently funded the "OUTCROP", a small business dedicated to geotourism and geoscience consulting. I lived and worked in different countries and different cities in Portugal. I currently live in Aveiro and whenever possible I try to develop outdoor activities, always with a close look at the geology and the interaction between human activities, natural resources and nature conservation.
Where you'll be
We will walk through the granites and shales of the Freita montains, between the villages of Albergaria da Serra, Candal, Manhouce and Castanheira and the Caima river springs, always around the 1000 m altitude. We will see magnificent panoramic views, imposing waterfalls, rare rock nodules, redoubled folds and typical villages, where geology is the vehicle to understand the whole landscape.
