What you'll do

We will walk towards the upper Parnaso - the highlands of the National Park - entering part of the majestic Serra dos Órgãos. We will pass through waterfalls, rivers and I will tell you a bit about the park. We'll possibly see beautiful mountains and reach a summit that has one of the most special views of Serra dos Órgãos mountain range.

This is a MODERATE to CHALLENGING hike of 16km (round trip) with constant ascent (1090m of altimetry) and a few steep stretches of climbing into a closed forest. The ascent takes around 4 to 5 hours, including stops for resting, hydration, replace our energies and enjoy the beautiful views of the mountains. It will be a worth day in the Nature and surrounded by beautiful mountains!

The ticket to the National Park needs to be bought in advance directly at the Parnaso website (R$ 59 for foreigners). It is necessary to wear long trousers and boots/tennis shoes for trekking and that you have a GOOD/GREAT physical condition. We will walk outdoors all the time, so we may be subject to the weather conditions and the landscapes may be affected by these factors out of our control.

I take small groups, usually 4 to 5 participants, looking to deliver a safe and quality experience, as well as being a great way to make friends! :)
Other things to note
Substantial Mountain Snack: R$ 22/person
Require it in advance and pay it at the time, in cash.

PARNASO Entrance Ticket (high part):
R$ 44 Mercosur, R$ 59 Another countries.
Parking: R$ 17/car.

Bring your PRINTED ticket voucher and a photo ID (it will be requested at the entrance of the park).

I highly recommend this experience! Everything was so well organised by Renata; there was help with how to obtain your park permit, and the packed lunch was delicious, well thought through and value for money. Serra dos Órgãos is a stunning National Park with incredible landscapes. It’s well known in Brazil by climbers and hikers, but international travellers seem less familiar with it, so it was like finding a hidden gem. Since it’s only a 2hr bus ride from Rio, I did the day hike as a side trip from there, staying 2 nights with Renata (see her Airbnb accommodation listing). Although there are some well defined trails in the Park, I wouldn’t have been able to reach many of the interesting corners and summit without Renata guiding me. Plus with her I learnt so much more about the area, the Park and Brazil in general.

We were lucky to spend a special day with Renata who guided us through amazing landscapes and gave us a lot of background information about vegetation, local flora and fauna and history. Renata is very well organized, knowledgeable and considerate - we always felt safe, also at the more technical part of the hike. Last but not least we had a lot of fun :)! Definitely recommend!
