Killarney National Park Tomies Wood
Experience hosted by Cesar
4 hours

What you'll do
An easy hike. Tomies Wood is the oldest oak forest in Ireland located inside Killarney National Park.
When we practice hiking, in a natural way we activate some elements of Mindfulness like:
Attention & concentration
Deep breathing
Feel your body in movement
Live the present moment
Active meditation
Listen to your heart rhythm....as we walk at a slow comfortable pace
This hike is a good opportunity to experience mindfulness elements during the activity. It’s tailored with this aim in mind.
The immediate outcome after the walk is balance in your body energy, your thoughts and feelings.
I will meet with my hiking group at Kate Kearney's Cottage, free car park with public toilets, in The Gap of Dunloe at 10:30.
After I have made sure they have the right hiking footwear & clothing for our walk, we have to drive 5 minutes to the start point at Tomies Wood free car park.
Itinerary:
Distance 8 km.
Total ascent 400 metres.
Duration 4 hours.
Walking together at a leisurely pace, I will make sure that everybody is comfortable and happy.
With stops to enjoy the scenery, to take pictures, to visit O’Sullivan’s Cascade & ancient dwelling places, to have some food & drink, etc.
The route is suitable for moderate fitness level, via a green road, some tracks into the forest, and the lower slopes of Tomies and Shehy mountains.
Great views of Killarney, Lough Leane, Ross Castle.

Cesar is such a kind & caring person who will tailor a hike to suit you, as an individual, perfectly.
He loves what he does & has a knowledge of Killarney that goes beyond even what locals know of the area. I can’t recommend this hike enough.
It’s in a unique & untouched part of Killarney with gorgeous flora & fauna, mountains & ancient oaks, rivers & streams, waterfalls & stunning views that will remain in your heart & mind.
You will feel very relaxed on this hike in that you can just be yourself and enjoy nature.
I brought some food and a thermos of tea & we stopped whenever I wanted to take pictures & eat. You can hike as fast as you want as well.

Great walk. Because it had rained, Cesar suggested a different trail. Otherwise, we would have had to navigate long stretches of tall, wet grass. But he let me make the decision. The alternate (Black Valley) was still spectacular. Cesar was also that I enjoyed myself, but did not push myself too much.

This was my first trip to Ireland and at home I like to hike. It was very nice to find this experience on Airbnb. I think it will appeal to outdoor lovers. Cesar was very helpful in answering all my questions before the hike and during it as well. He was very conscious of my abilities and never made me feel rushed. He seemed genuinely concerned that I had a great experience. It was easy to tell that leading a hike for him was not like work, but pleasure. Cesar even took several photos of me which I really appreciate as I will have a lasting memory of the hike.
This hike was good value for the cost.
